Favorite Knots: Let's share "how-to's"

Anyone familiar with what I'll call the water knot? It's a simple knot used for tying climbing webbing or other "flat" rope, but I use it for round rope also. Use it for neck lanyards, necklaces (re-enacting using artificial sinue..a particularly slippery substance), etc. Holds tight regardless. Tie a simple loose overhand knot in one end of the cord. Take the other end and follow backwards through the overhand knot you just tied. Follow the other knot exactly leaving a small amount of cord exposed on each end. Pull tight!

Yep!
It's also called the tape knot because it's the "proper" way to tie the ends of climbing tape together. It suits tape because it stays flat.

The knot Folsom calls an alpine butterfly is a good one.I learned this knot at RIP in the army,it was simply called the butterfly knot, one of its best features is that it is easy to untie after heavy loading. We were taught that when the knot is viewed from the front there should be an X formed when the knot is dressed.

I tie the alpine butterfly the way stew described (I think);'. I've seen other methods n books but couldn't wrap my mind around them.

Very simple looking in it's final form considering it won't capsize even when stressed from three directions. I like the fact that it can be tied without using the ends of the line.

I am not sure who posted the drawing regarding the Trucker's hutch but aside from the bowline this is probably the most used knot for me. However in the sketch, when the running end of the line goes through the loop and then you pull tight and pinch it off to secure it, run the running end through twice so it is very easy to cinch it down super-tight and pinch it off. this makes for a much easier experience. Will write more later.
