Ditto. I have to say though, that I like righty frame locks less than liner locks. You just can't play with it as much as a liner lock. :D

We've had a pretty long time to watch the axis prove itself.

Joe

Just looking at myself: I used to carry a backlock for over 8 years. Every other knife after that not much longer than a half year til i get a new one (on the quest for the "right" knife).

It is just Wade F, who uses his 710HS for over 4 years in edc. Might have missed it but i don´t remember anybody else using an axis for so long.

Wish my last one, axis, will keep in my pocket for over a year minimum or longer (better) to tell how reliable axis is by own long time experience.

So, axis is on market for long and stories are little about it. But long time reviews (a year and more) are rare, even in the Knife - scene, where knifes rotate so quickly.

For me I like frame locks and the axis , I'm leary of liners , and I positivley hate the LAWKS . That thing is like welding a piece of boiler plate on a leaky bucket .

Least favorite, liner locks.

Favorite, hard to commit to one, but probably lockback. I also like the Axis Lock. The lock method on AG Russell's One-Hand Knife is nice too.

Favorite to play with, the Lev-R-Lock. :)

Yeah, in the knife knut world, this is probably the norm: carry a knife 'til you get a new one! That's true of any lock, when it comes to this crew.

I got my pre-production 710 in '98 (I think), and carried and used it probably 50% of the time until last year, when my training partner gave me a 710-M2! Almost never cleaned it. No broken springs. That of course doesn't mean much, one example isn't enough to draw strong conclusions from, but my 710 has definitely been through hell. It's now retired in favor of the M-2 version.

My favorite loking mechanism is a fixed blade, (laughs).... ok... I'd have to say frame-lock. There are no moving parts and it is very reliable (in my opinion). I have an older Benchmade Pinnacle that I bought a few years ago and it went through hell. The lock is as strong as the day I got it. Benchmade's axis lock is a good piece of kit and will probably take alot of weight before failiure, but I will take a frame-lock because of my dislike towards moving parts.

My least favorite is the liner lock....The thinner the liner the worse the lock. I have had a Kershaw fail and fold up... (an expensive Kershaw at that) and I was not abusing it in any way...Just poor design. As well as a Gerber Applegate who's liner never seems to lock in the same position twice.

Perhaps seeing the two I handled fall apart at the slightest problem with the springs started me off on the wrong foot with them Joe. I concede that first impressions are pretty strong influences with me and that you do make a good case in their favor. At this writing though, that is the best I can give on it. I do appreciate where you are coming from though and thank you for giving me the update on the Axis locks true age.

Ya, no matter if 1000 people get perfect knives, if the one you personally handled was a lemon, it's hard to get the bad taste out of your mouth. I do see an overwhelming number of stories of positive axis experiences though, which is why I think the format is really solid.
