Did my first wood scales tonight with stabilized maple burl, stainless pins, stainless bolster, 1080 high-carbon hand-rubbed 1200 grit finish on a 4 inch blade. Used forest green and yellow liners.
In my opinion the stainless pins are lost in the wood. Plain old black would have been better. And I'm not terribly crazy about the liner combinations. (You can see I still have some touch up to do on the bolsters. Buffer shows ALL!)
I liked a knife i did with black liners with white and black micarta and black pin combo. Black scales with red liners looked good. I did red and yellow liners with black linen micarta scales and it looked pretty good too.
I've got some beautiful blue dyed quilted maple scales that Brett Matthews was nice enough to send me and I'd like to have a winning combination when I use them for a knife.
But above and beyond that, what are your favorite liner/scale/spacer combinations? Pics if you want to!
