Favorite Little Big Knife

It doesn't make sense huh? It's semantics? Really? If you want to only believe in what a catalog says, hey that's up to you. Why don't you go onto the same website and check out the forums. Search for Little Big Knife threads and you'll find many that I wouldn't consider "newbies" as you call them that call the Cricket an LBK. One of the posters is named Sal Glesser and another is KaliGman. Do you have any idea who they are. Why don't you go check it out and try to explain your definition of an LBK to them. Or anyone else on these threads. By the way the Endura is also under the Gents' category (that you mentioned, but obviously did not check out the second pages on these) and the Spin is in the LBK's and the Gent's. But go ahead and believe what you want. I prefer to believe actual feedback rather than a catalog. That makes sense.

Other than name dropping you offer an unsubstantiated opinion. Kaligman is a talented martial artist and someone who I speak to via email. His opinion is no more valid than mine. Feel free to show me Sal's posts, I've backed up my opinion with valid Spyderco copy.

You're right it is only an opinion. But when these two don't debate in the threads about the Cricket being an LBK or anyone else that's good enough for me. Thank you for validating that point. You are correct. The Cricket is not in the LBK category of the catalog.

Well KaliG wouldn't debate something like that, totally beneath his notice. If you have seen Sal actually refer to it as a LBK, I'd really like to see it. (Sal is too much of a gentlemen to debate something so minor as well.)

I think I should amend my previous definition as the Spin is classed as a LBK and it is the same size aprox as the Cricket.

The LBK also has to have some hand melding ergonomics. The Spin has those the Cricket doesn't.

The cricket design was more an art piece designed to mimic the yinyang symbol.

BTW, you might see some of my Cricket collection over there if you search under Cricket...I love the thing, which is what is really important. :)

I am not understanding this argument! Is it a little knife, or is it a little big knife, who knows!?

Those of us blessed with extreme manual dexterity find the Cricket quite ergonomic. Thumb at the intersection of blade and handle on top, index finger below. Solid grip, excellent control.

It's a zen thing.

Om mani padme him,
grip the Cricket with index and thumb.

I think the Busse Steel Heart is a Little Big Knife, so I'm worthless in this discussion.

That said, I like my Dragonfly, Meerkat, and Almite Navigator.

They're what I call "Teeny Tiny" (TT) knives. Wonder if that'll catch on.

Okay Okay I'll reclassify my Crickets as TT knives. Is everyone happy now? All I know is the Cricket has tremendous cutting power for it's size. What do I know though, Ive only been messing with Spydercos for around ten years. Only had a Cricket for the last five years. Call it what you want, just enjoy it. Never been much on lables anyway.

Don't know if this is small enough to qualify -it is pretty thick- but the Spyderco Captain is the winner in my book in terms of the smallest knife I've run across that works like something with a inch or 2 more handle than it actually has.really practical blade design

If the blades over 2 1/2 inches long, I'd say it's no longer a "little" knife in the eyes of regular, non forumites. Of course, after EDC a millie for a while, my Delica felt like a ladybug, so I understand the different perspective :)

Byrd Robin:-). I never thought that such a little could be so comfortable to use...and the way it clicks open...mmm...:-)

I'm laughing because my first thought to Spyderco and "little big knife" was the Mili! light easy to carry, and can do some serious slicing. Those little ones I do not associate with big in any way. different strokes i reckon...

yeah, my Lil big knife is sometimes a SS Ladybug3 othertimes it's a Spin....sometimes it's a Cricket... other times it's a Lava or Robin :p

my Ladybug III is very nice but I can live without it (not fond of the saber grind and the lack of a clip), that's not the case for my SE Cricket.
It's always in my waist band when I'm not at home, wherever I go.
I think I should try other LBKs, maybe the FRN D'fly...

I love the cricket for the little space it requires yet the blade is big enough that I rarely use more than the tip and first serration for what I have to cut.
I'm tempted to try the PE etched version, too.

I've had a DragonFly for about 8 years now. Got if for being in a wedding which cost me about $1,200 bucks. SS model, love it.

SS Etched Dragonfly is my "little big knife". Best $40 I ever spent. It slides into the front pocket of my "office" pants 3 or 4 days a week.
