Favorite Lock Type

Depends on the knife. Personally, I really prefer a lockback but sometime the release is located in a bad location. I prefer the release on a lockback to be located at the far end of the handle rather than closer to the blade.

Some liner locks are ok but most are cumbersome. If they are good, and it is an easy opening knife with a thumb stud or hold, a liner lock can usually be opened and closed with one hand, which I like.

I see lots of posts asking for favorite knife, what about just favorite lock type (and why)?

I really like the Compression Lock on my Gunting. It combines the simplicity of the liner-lock with the strength of the "new-generation" locking devices. Plus I think it should wear less and be less susceptible to damage than most of these. The only problem I can see with it is that if you somehow get a huge mass of crud in the knife (like about a pound of pocket lint mixed with Elmer's glue) you might prevent it from locking up. But that's the same with all the other lock types.
