Favorite locks???

I have tried an Axis and liked it although I don't have one. I do not like my Benchmade AFCK's liner lock as much. A small tap on the back of the blade releases the lock. I just got a Spyderco Manix, and I love that lock. Not sure what it's called except back lock. It seems to lock up real tight.

I like lockbacks and midlocks myself, but when it comes down to it, I really prefer no lock at all.

Vault lock from Kershaw/Onion.

Here's a picture:

Compression lock for me. Easiest to manipulate one handed, very light and very strong design.

Whichever lock works properly. I've got back-locks, frame locks and an Axis-lock. (No liner locks, yet.) They all have their good and bad points. But as they all lock up solid when they're supposed to and release smoothly when they're supposed to: Six of one and a half-dozen of the other, to my way of thinking. (This Mini-Grip is growin' on me, the longer I carry it, tho ;).)

Either compression lock or frame lock are awesome. I do like my axis though.

Any lock can be good as long as it is well made. I'll take the liner lock on an Emerson over a $9.99 chinese frame or back lock any day.

I hate to say it, but cold steel does have several different types of locks to choose from, even if their ideas generated from other companies.

The closest thing to an axis lock would be the arc-lock from SOG. Same principle, just the arc lock kind of swings in whereas the axis lock is pushed straight in when engaged.

What's the difference between a frame lock and a compression lock?

A frame lock uses a piece of the handle material as the liner (Strider's and such), while the compression lock wedges a piece of metal between the blade tang and the stop pin.

What's the difference between a frame lock and a compression lock?

I believe a compression lock engages on top of the knife, right behind the stop pin. On a frame lock, the lock engages at the bottom of the blade.

Others who know more about it should chime in soon.

edit: you beat me to it, I was watching tv and took forever posting :o
