Favorite Lost Knives

My wife was running late grabbed my keychain with a SAK Executive on it on her way to the airport last. That knife was 17 years old and I carried it every day. Well she was late for the plane and the TSA guy took it. Needless to say I was pissed. She couldn't understand that just buying another knife to replace was not the solution.

From the most recent to the oldest one:

1) seber tool (the basic one plier + flat and phillips), nicked by airport security in Ft. Ldl.
2) leatherman Micra, nicked by airport security in London Gatwick
3)Old Kershaw lock back (similar to the Puma ones but beefier), when someone stole my fanny pack from my office (+ cell phone, universal key for swith boards, mini mag lite, coffee machine card and change)
4)Spyderco Military, lost while inspecting a very tight machinery space on board a ship.
5)Swiss champ, lost either on a ship or on vacation
6)Small Al Mar liner lock folder all steel skeleton handle abot 3" spear point blade, neatest little knife, lost during a crew party on a ship
7)Spyderco Police, lost on a bet (at least it went to a good guy...)

The Milly and the small Al Mar are the ones hurting the most

With all these lost knives its surprising I've never found a knife, at least one that wasn't broken and therefore more likely discarded than lost. You can't throw a rock without hitting a rusty machete on Guam.

I lost 2 SAKs in Anchorage, Alaska out of my car. I was gone literally a couple minutes. Someone must have really wanted them..well, for drug money, probably.

Spyderco Endura: Lost when I was climbing onto upper canopy on the boat I used to work on. Swung my leg up, heard something hit the side of the boat, and watched as my Endura sank to the depths.

Spyderco Delica: Lost when I was cutting the hook off of a stingray. Lost my grip and watched as it too was resigned to the briny deep.

Now when I take a knife with me on a boat, it's attached to me with a lanyard

My favorite lost knife was a Boker folding hunter with two blades, a clip and a skinner.

I lost it one night coon hunting.

Scott Cook Lochsa - bought it, but it went awol between the vendor & me. The monetary loss has never bothered me (can always earn it back). The loss of a good piece of craftsmanship bothers me still.

The only one I can think of that I've ever lost was the very first knife I ever had, which was about the size of the AG Russell Ultimate Pen Knife. It wasn't a high-tech knife, or a big ol' sturdy knife, but I liked it. Besides, I was a kid at the time and didn't give two hoots about blade steel or handle material. I'm thinking of getting one of the new AGR UPKs at some point.

I've misplaced other knives, but they've always been found and returned to me, fortunately.

I bought a Buck 110 while in the 8th grade. I had that thing through high school, college and about five years after that; call it 14-15 years. I kept it in the map pocket of my VW Golf (GTI 16V!!) when it wasn't on my belt. I took the car in for some service and when I got it back, it wasn't there. The service manager wasn't sympathetic at all. He just pointed to the sign about lost/stolen items and said, essentially, "tough luck." I hope everytime that jerk that stole it see's my initials carved into the sheath, his conscience gives him a jab in the guts.

These are all interesting and poignant replies.

Is OJ Simpson a forum member? He may have missed this thread. Anyone have a username for him so we could PM him?

;) :D

I have lost only three knives in my life:

My father's Puma Hunter's Pal that he gave to me when I turned 12- I went hunting and it fell out of the sheath. I was 15.

A SAK climber that I also got from my parents when I started scouts at 12 - lost it doing a wet exit out of a raft when I was 22.

A Gerber Mark II that I bought for myself when I entered the Service at 18. It was stolen out of my truck three years ago.

On the plus side I have found two knives :

A SOG Paratool at the top of an iceclimb in Banff National Park

A Mora 2000 on the West Coast Trail of BC.

Both knives were in excellent shape. I gave them to friends to pass on my good fortune.

Original Cold Steel tanto that I left in a Provo, UT motel room on 15 August 1988 on my way to relocate near Reno.

Obviously I've gotten over it

When you go through a major knife throwing phase in your youth you lose or break so many knives that you mostly don't notice a few lost here and there. The two that hurt the most were my standard bush knives I got when I was in my low teens. One was my basic Legitimus Collins machete with red painted blade. It was stolen by the son of family friends. I didn't find out he took it until long after the other goods were returned. I used to play doctor with his older sister and I didn't feel like resurrecting the burglary that put a wedge between our two families. The other was my old WWI P14 Enfield bayonet (17" blade). I don't know how and when I lost it. Maybe it was stolen.

I lost my Point Guard while hiking in Shenandoah National Park. My own fault hiking off the trail after the snow melt...slid down a nice vertical path. Got back to the car with (nothing injured other than my pride) put my hand in my pocket and realized the knife was gone, clip and all.

Never lost anything, gave away a lot to minimize my mom's chance of finding my stuff. (gave away knives i knew i wouldn't use)

Just lost a Spyderco Endura. Still looking for it, but losing steam. That was my first knife with a real blade on it. Picked up a Spyderco Dragonfly to hold me over until I figure out what to replace the Endura with. Probably another Endura. Perhaps a Delica.

My prob is that the knife will weasel its way out of my front pocket, usually when I'm seated, despite using a clip. May try to figure out another way to carry, like maybe finding a nylon belt holder with a velcro enclosure.

best regards

i lost a CRKT KISS with the tanto point that i carried when i was in highschool (not actually when i went to school) that i lost when i moved. it was just an okay knife but it had the cool factor and we went through a lot. i still poke around for it sometimes even though it's been gone for two years.

Sorry to hear about your knife. Always sucks to lose one. My fav was a Microtec UT6...I still bum out thinking about it.
