What are your favorite Loveless designs? Mine are the Chute, Bear subhilts, New York Special, Wilderness and Battle Knife. As you can tell, my preferences are for the fighter styles, not the hunters, but I do also like the drop point hunter. It just wouldn't be one of my first choices.

My collection is going to start to have a lot more Loveless style knives included in it. I have a couple of knives on order with Charles Vestal and one with John Young. I will also be placing an order with Alain Desaulniers. These makers' knives are still very reasonably priced, and their work seems to be of excellent quality. I would love to get a knife from Mike Lovett, but when I contacted him, he told me that he has six or more years of back-orders. For me, that's too long to wait.

There is a group of makers that includes SR Johnson and Dietmar Kressler whom I would love to get knives from, but they are out of my price range at this time.

Are there other makers you would recommend me taking a look at?

I'm a big fan of his symmetrical daggers. The kind that Gerber reproduced as the Guardian series.

I had started to really take an interest in this style knife as well, I purchased one.

Here's a very nice Romano example I borrowed from the CKCA "New Knives" forum.

Hi Keith... As a suggestion, make sure to include Japanese makers in your search. Many of these makers are dedicated to producing Loveless designs with reverance. I own several myself, and Coop could carpet bomb this thread with examples.. (If you would like, I can send you a list of the makers I am familar with..) Best, Rich

Don't forget to get a Big Bear from Mr. Subhilt himself, David Broadwell:

I like the Wilderness and the Chute, and my 1st choice makers for any of those would be Rob Brown or GenO Denning.

I guess my favorites are the Chute and the Mini-Wilderness. As far as makers I'd say Bill Ankrom, John Young, Mike Lovett and Rob Brown. I've owned knives by all three and the fit, finish and balance are all there. Ankroms stand out because they're flat ground instead of hollow and hand rubbed satin as opposed to polished.
