Favorite Machete

I am liking this Imacasa. I replaced the plastic handle with oak, and reshaped the tip, works great ...very comfortable and light

My Baryonyx Machete, but I'm naturally a bit biased since I designed it myself. :p I have a lot of favorites for different tasks, but if I could only have one, that'd be it.

This, I love this Baryonyx machete. 👍

Just got it and it's defiantly a heavy machete but the Kabar Parangatang, is quickly becoming my favorite.

This is my favorite user. Works great. I have tried others, but this one does what I want. I have some ethnic pinuti and similar blades, but they are either too nice to chop brush in the back yard, or the steel is too soft. It is not an axe, but will easily take out saplings .

Just finished modifying the tip and handle of this 14.5" Imacasa bolo. It comes with a wooden handle and full tang. Reshaping the handle and tip went fairly quickly, and I really like the result. May be my favorite.

If you have a need for a Latin pattern, 14" machete, the Marble's Black Camo Machete is nice, despite the paracord wrapped handle. It's made by Imacasa I believe, but is a bit thicker than Imacasa's #127 pattern 14 incher. It can be had very inexpensively with a sheath/sharpening stone. Wish Marble's sold it cheaper without the sheath & stone. Cute blade, factory grind not bad. Not much upsweep (a wee bit more than appears in the pic) , but has nice belly.

Can't see your pics either !

My favorite and most used machete is the Ontario 12" saw back thick bladed cutlass. I prefer the shorter 12" when canoeing, hiking or hunting. The short blade cuts great without getting in the way when sheathed. It's more like carrying a large knife than a machete.

new pics posted. I had to order a Marbles black camo also.

USMCPOP USMCPOP I ordered a Marble's Black Camo Machete.
Due today, I have no need but whatever I'll find a use.

Hope you like it and got a good deal on the $, like < $15 w/sheath. It is not a hatchet substitute, as it is still thin, but just a tad heavier than the Imacasa equivalent. I call the 14" Imacasas my watermelon knives. I still need to unwrap the paracord on mine and futz with the grip a bit. Also need to convex the edge on it. I did strip off the painted coating and squirted on some mustard, ketchup and hot sauce to give it a patina. (Looks like a spotted hyena - pretty ugly.) If you go that route, I highly recommend Valentina hot sauce, mainly because it tastes OK and sells for less than $2. for a one liter bottle.

Just finished modifying...

I like what you did there! Little nip and tuck, bit of a Scandi waist... How long is the blade now?

Sometimes the bigger ones have enough meat to chop down into a pattern you want and have the thickness/weight you are looking for in the finished knife. I got a couple NOS Collins machetes (bolo & panga) recently in 18" and 20". They are heavy. I think they were meant for hacking in jungles back before everyone cut down all the good stuff and the little weeds and grass grew up.

Depends on your plans for it... (yes, i realize this is an old thread; but I'm not the one that dragged it up).
For heavy work - I have an Ontario 22" HD and a Cold Steel Magnum Kukri (the only CS product I have ever liked, and the edge was unusable as received)
For general use, my favorite by a good margin is an 18" Tramontina.

My new Marble's Black Camo Machete just arrived. So far I like it. The wrap on the handle was too thick for me so I removed it. It's about 9' & 7 strand although the inner strands look thinner then normal. Still useful.
Also at 0.090" it's thinner then I expected.

The Marbles machetes are a pretty good deal.
I got one over the holidays and for 15 bucks it came with a sheath and sharpening stone.

I think these are made by Imacasa, and they make a good machete.
My panga type from them has held up well over the years.

this Collins is similar, yet I havent altered the blade as yet.

this Martindale has a blade roughly twice as thick as the Imacasas. The handle was a straight and small rectangle that I had a hard time holding on to, so I gave it a cord wrap soaked in epoxy. very grippy now
