Favorite material for scales? And why?

I like/use carbon fiber on my folders and mammoth ivory on my hunting knives. The ivory gets tacky when wet with blood and sticks in my hand. Looks great too.

When i started really getting into knives about 6 years ago I thought CF was the coolest thing ever on a knife. It’s still one of the best looking IMO, but I prefer the heft/solidity of a full ti handle

This works for me.

Is that the Gentleman Jim? I was so close to buying one a couple years ago but unfortunately I did not. Sweet Emerson

As of right now I prefer g10,ti, or aluminum. The linen micarta knife I have now I got a drop of blue lube on the handle and now it has a big black spot on it. I haven’t purchased a knife with micarta since. Although I am open to ideas of how to get the black spot off the micarta..

Easy question. I like skeletonized Titanium. It is light, strong, corrosion resistant, and grippy. It is easy to refinish, and it can be drilled and tapped for pocket clips.
It can also be 3-D printed.

You have one of my favorite knives. Someday I'll find myself a medium Tighe Rod.

Titanium or G-10. I do find for handling and fiddling i gravitate to G-10, i just really like the texture. I cant stand the feel of micarta, and do not like the worn look. I am open to wood, but my only wood folder is a front flip small centauri and i do not really like how it deploys so not a good representation.

I like traditional knives... and love the look of Mother of Pearl. I don't have a lot of it, but wouldn't mind adding more. Here are a couple in MOP that I do have...

The 1880 Circa MOP Opera Glasses thrown in for a little extra flair.
👍😃👍

And an honorable mention for this German made 'Linder' brand dagger with faux Mother of Pearl. The material is some sort of synthetic that has the marketing name 'Perlex'... It's pretty convincing looking stuff 😊

No but I've seen pics of a Dwyer with it. It looked great and the quoted weight was heavy like 7 oz I think.
Oh ok, so it's some pretty heavy stuff then. I suppose most of his knives are decently heavy in general though. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a pic to satisfy my curiosity.

I just changed out whatever name Kabar used for plastic scales on the BK18. Factory scales were nice I just prefer micarta these days

I really like to look of wood but carry knives nowadays is Micarta. I like the Micarta buck used in the 104 especially. I dont care much for the burlap some makers use. I also do not like it fully polished like in the buck 124’s

Most of my knives have natural materials. The "Why?" is simple: That's all they were/are offered with.

I have a couple with Micarta, G-10, and some type of acrylic. Not a lot of difference in how they feel, IMHO.

If I had to pick a favorite natural material, I'd probably go with Stag, even though I only have two with that material (a 2011 GEC 85, and the 2018 BF Buck 301forum knife) I'd choose stag as my favorite of the handle materials I have based on looks, and the grip gnarly stag provides. I also like the look of horn, be it rams horn, buffalo, or Impala, but don't possess a knife shod with any of these ... yet ... maybe some day.
Mother of Pearl, black lip pearl, and Abalone also look good, but are a wee bit ... o.k. ... o.k. ... a whole bunch ... fancier for something I'd EDC. Be o.k. for a Sunday/go to meetin'/get wedded (HA! like there's a snowflake's chance in the middle of the Sahara Desert during the summer of that happening in this lifetime)/business office/board meeting carry. However, as often as I attend any of these ... not worth getting.

I meant that I want a medium. I had the small, and it was just a little too small.
I figured you wanted a medium. I thought that you thought the pictured knife was medium. About 1/2” difference in blade length: med=3 1/2”, lrg=4”.

Does anyone think petrified wood would be cool? I mean for a gentleman’s folder not a survival knife. 😂
