What are your favorites? My favorite that I have is my bark river gunny rampless in 3v... most comfortable handle and in my opinion I think it is one of the best looking knives even with the plain black micarta. I've been looking for one in elmax and can't find it so I'm searching for another stainless in this size or something with really good edge holding, decent toughness and at least semi stainless.. I've been looking at the lionsteel m4 the trc k1-s and the Bradford guardian m390... what are your favorites and why!!?? Oh yea been looking at customs and see a lot I like but unsure of the knife makers probably because I'm new to the forums and haven't been looking around at customs until recently.. thanks everyone

It's just over 9.5", but Carother's Field knife.

Don't know if it's the 'best' one, but it suits my knife needs rather well.

the m4 has a 95mm blade/25.4=3.74".....ok, your looking for overall ....Way to vague of a question....so many options

It's 8-9.5 inch BLADE: Otherwise for OA this would cover so much ground this would not even make sense as a question...

No I was talking about the overall length sorry for the confusion.. I rushed to get that thread posted before I got in the shower.. I know there isn't a best I just wanted to know what everyone's favorites were.. I still feel new to the knife game even though I've learned so much in the last year I really haven't looked in to all that many different companies. I might've heard about them but I don't really know about all of them. I changed the title to something easier for everyone to understand what I am asking.

I actually have no clue what the OAL of any of the knives I have owned, or own. I think if you shoot for blade length, you might get more responses. Also state if your looking for a folder (unfolded of course) or a fixed blade strictly. My mind set when purchasing has always been blade length, width, grind, steel and thickness 1st. Then I worried about handle material and ergos second, never overall (for fixed blades/ folders there is much more to look into with function). You will enjoy this forum and the world of knives, because there are so many knife options for you to buy through with what you are looking for. Welcome and enjoy the ride Gradyw!

8-10 blade (Battle Mistress) is considered medium sized? I would say 5-7 constitutes medium. Regardless, any variant of the SFNO would be my favorite. Play hard, play INFI.

Bk 15 or my little kabar navy mkI

I also really like my new Kellam Fang, really top notch craftsmanship.
Helle may be worth a look too

I think a Bradford Guardian 4 in M390 and 3D handles would fit the bill nicely. Excellent edge retention, stainless, reasonably tough, and very comfortable to work with. Just over 9" OAL. Different than your Gunny. It's my only knife in this range and I like it enough that I'm not sure I'll get another.

If I were to get another knife in that range, it would likely be a Bark River Aurora LT. Based on my experience with the Mini-Aurora, the handle should be very comfortable. I really like the convex grind. That said, I still prefer the wider blade and more grippy handles on the Bradford.

Becker BK16 is the best production knife in that size range, but my favorite is the Fiddleback Bushfinger; can't beat the impeccable craftsmanship of that forge.
