This looks like a very good year for Spyderco. Lots of nice, new ideas and twists on old ones available now. I haven't seen Kershaw's catalog yet, but they had such a strong 08...but now, we have no new KO models coming out. I have a copy of Benchmade's 09, and I'm not really enthused about the offerings. There's good stuff, as always, but I'm just not excited about anything...I don't feel like there's anything new my existing BM collection can't do. 08 was the first year in...5 years or so, that I haven't bought a new BM. The possible exception is that sweet Lum framelock.

At any rate, as far as I can tell, Spyderco is leading with the new models in 09. Hopefully I can grab a Kershaw catalog ASAP.

I'm particularly excited about the Leafstorm and G10 poliwog. I never really liked solid SS handled knives, so the Poliwog's switch makes it much more appealing. The leafstorm is just a nice "sheeple" friend small little knife. I probably will just get one of these two....leaning towards the leafstorm. I love color in my knives.

One I'm excited about, but would definitely want to try first hand before ordering, is the Rocklobster. What a radical blade shape for a folder. But I do have a couple concerns...it may be too big for me to EDC really (I already have my super huge mega folder in the G10 Offset for this year) and the handle looks kind of uncomfortable. But man, what a cool looking knife.

I do wish we'd seen some variations on the new Schempps this year. FG-G10 just doesn't do those exotic designs justice...I like the switch to the liner lock on them, but whatever happened to that SS bolster/micarta handle?

Anyway, just my thoughts on all things Spyderco.

Anyone else excited about a new model?

That Leaf Storm looks impressive. I'm definitely going to get one of those. I might grab a ladybug salt as well, such a great little knife

rocklobster, ril sage, fg smith (already on the home site, but i haven't seen it anywhere else).

they have a lot of interesting knives coming out, but what I'm really excited to see is the new full sized Manix.

I'm still in love with my Tenacious from 08! (or did it come out earlier?)

This year I like the Bushcraft and the G10 Poliwog.

How about the Police 3, camo handled military and para military, Native 4, and superhawk? do those count as 09s? I like all those too.

I'm looking forward to the ne Manix and Mini-Manix with the ball lock. I might also spring for a Native 4.

JD Smith Sprint Run looks sweet, in spite of the color. Very anxious to get my hands on the two FRN versions of the Stretch II and the production version of the Sage RIL. Also looking forward to adding the two new Kopas to my collection. That's about it for me, although I may call and see if SFO has any of the Bugs left.

I didn't know they were reintroducing the MINI manix....is this when they bring it back with the BBL? A mini manix w/t BBL would be a must.

Titanium Sage, G10 Dragonfly and G10 Lava. Not in the 09 catalogue but I'm hoping they'll be out this year.

+1 on this. It was discussed many times, but I still feel a pain.

Most exited for me in 2009 are new Kopas and Native4 (already have two). Most likely I will pickup Native4 in FRN when they come out as well.
There are couple more new models, I am thinking to get or not. Probably will get some oldies. Sometimes they are less expensive than new models.

My want list includes the Urban.Leaf Storm J.D. Smith and the FRN Stretch II.
Will wait on the reviews, of the Rock Lobster, before committing.
My one concern of the J. D. Smith is, it appears the hole is somewhat hidden.
Will this be a handicap in the opening of the knife?

I'm excited about the new JD Smith, the potential for more digital camo models and the FRN Stretch. I also like the continued frequency of the 4-way pocket clip.
