Haven't been on the forum as much lately. Been to busy with things and such. I'm really close to getting my knife shop finished. Lots of new names here! Today I was thinking about the rare khukuries out there people have and decided to start a new thread on it!

The AK, Sirupati, BAS, Kobra, GRS ect. are quiet common here. What are your favorite not to common khuks even if you don't own one? I have a 15 inch 1/2 inch think Ghopte with finger grips on the handle that I like alot. I also like my 18th century and my Tin Chirra. What are your favorites?:)

Favorite non-common khukuri is the Wood handled YCS I own. Perfect fit for my hand and handles like it was made for me.

As always, I have to give props to my Malla...only khuk I have that I'm afraid of--it seems to be just waiting for me to make a mistake. Kind of like one of Steve Irwin's crocodiles. :)

My most unique khukuri to date is the first Nepalese khuk I ever bought. It was the first thing I actually bought from someone on these forums as a matter of fact. It is called a Reiger Khukuri. It was made by GH when they were around. They had a khuk design contest, where the winning entry got to have his design made in steel and get it for free. The winner was a gent named Otto Reiger IIRC and this was his design. Well the Kamis made two of them and I ended up eventually with Reiger Khukuri #2. It is 18 1/2" OAL, with full tang construction. The handle shape is sort of westernised with a single finger grip. It has brass wrapped copper pins and a thong hole through the horn handle slabs. It wears a nice convex edge and is a rather long waisted beauty.;)

Edited to add that my YCS is still my favorite khuk also, my Reiger is my most unique.

I gotta agree with the YCS. My plain handled beauty, sans fullers as she came, is a thing of beauty. Her handle is as thick as my UBE and only my 3lb Sher 18"Ak is thicker. She out chops anything in her class and brings a smile to my flinty heart.

One of my MOST FAVORED Khukuris is a 'Folding Khukuri'
About 7-3/4 in long open, 4-1/4 in folded. Beautiful stag handle.
Came in a case marked RB Custom Knives. If I have my history correct, it originally came from Al Williams, author of a book "Living on the Edge", used to be President of the Chesapeake Bay Knife Club.

It was given to me last December time from a very special person. An heirloom to treasure and pass on to my kids.

I know I have posted pictures here before, but haven't had any luck doing it this time. Will have to research the procedure again. I have a picture saved in my 'Document', My Pictures, file in the hard drive, but so far haven't been able to post it. DUHHHH- FORGOT TO RENEW MY PREMIUM MBRSHIP. JUST DONE DOOD IT! YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD SEND YOU A REMINDER. Thanks for posting pic, Heber

I'm also partial to my engraved 18 in Ganga Ram, THAN,
MY - - - well , the rest of my collection. Haven't seen a Khukuri I didn't like for one reason or the other. Everyone of them has a special story.

Here is Lsc37's Folding Khukuri:

I'd have to give my nod to my 21" Chitlangi by Durba. It seems to "flow to form" whenever I take it out of its scabbard. The next one would be my 18" Gelbu Special. Very similar in balance for a shorter blade.

Hank:cool:

Here's my favorite "not common" khukuri. Pardon the picture quality, I cropped it from a larger photo.

Well my favorite of course is the Foxy's folly. Just wait till people get this one in their hands

Hmmm, let me think, okay, thinkin' over, if another Ghopte Balance ever happens to pop up, y'all are going to have to race me for it.:D
