Favorite Pattern?
Just started collecting slippies and am definitely liking them. They seem to add a bit more class to carrying a knife and so far they have done everything I use knives for no problem, I'd a never guessed I didn't need locking mechanism if I never tried a knife without one. As usual when it comes to collecting I am off to my usual OCD start. I have so far accrued a Stockman and premium jack by Colonial, just received a copperhead by Rough Rider today and it is great knife for the price and I also have a Bulldog Copperhead and Case Sodbuster on the way. Question is though what should be my next acquistion. I'm thinking a Case Holstein Stockman, but I am open to suggestions. I like the medium to big patterns and definitely like the two blade+ styles so what would y'all get next.

I have a couple of favorites. For production knives nothing beats a good stockman. But when it comes to customs, I prefer single blade trapper.

In the past I would have said a stockman. But now, I have so many nice patterns that I couldn't answer that question. Stockman is certainly a great do-it-all knife but my grandpa also did everything with his old timer trapper. Hell, others can do it all with a simple peanut. I like em' all!

My recommendation to you would be to try a Case peanut. It's pretty eye opening to realize almost everything can be done with such a tiny knife.

I like easy open jacks...swaybacks...and dog leg jacks.

Hows about a nice Case 6292. 2 blades and approx. 4 inches closed...
The pattern has been discontinued, but they can still be found. The options are endless. Just get whatever grabs your attention and give it a try. If you find you don't like something, sell it and try something else

I am a big fan of the scout pattern. Right now I am carrying a Vic Cadet. I just love the utility of the different tools. The can opener can do WAY more then open cans. Same with the bottle opener and file. All I really need is one knife blade. While the Cadet is a bit slimmer then I normally go for, I love the fact that I can do way more with this tiny little knife then I could with a large Stockman for example. I want to try a Case Scout Jr. as well. I was never a big fan of the thick body older scouts, but pattern wise, it the one that does it for me.

I would say to go for a trapper or mini trapper. Great knives. I can also whole heatedly recommend the Case Copperhead. I have one and its one of my favorite knives next to my 8OT. And as much as you like 2 blades+ go look at GEC and their Pioneer. They look awesome. Or if you want something a bit more interesting go look at Queens Teardrop Jack in ebony. Just gorgeous.

Medium Stockman and Mini Trapper seem to be my favorites today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

I've been all ove rthe map. I started carrying a scout knife when I was 12, and that gave me an appretiation of a knife with some tools on it. From about 20 to my mid 30's I carried a Buck 301 stockman, sometimes paired up with a sak I picked up. In my 40's I played with the sodbuster for a while, and they were good.

The last decade I've been a fan of a sak paired up with a small twp blade jack like a peanut. I love peanuts. Stylish little knives that cut great.

The past year has seen some tendon problems with my left hand, and arthritis in general, and I've been using a lot of small sak's because of the light springs and smooth operation. I sometimes carry a small pocket fixed blade.

They're all good. So many knives, so little time.

I tend to go through pattern phases, but overall I like the stockman.

Same here.Stockmans take precedent over all. Give a nice big Queen trapper #19 a try in birds eye maple. Great price.
Right now I'm in love with a canoe which I never thought I would own.
Thanks Rob:thumbup:

The Stockman is my favorite by far ..... But the Texas Jack and Back Pocket Trapper are going to be big in my future collecting........

I'm really feeling the call of the Case Holstein stockman. Legendary case quality, 3 blades and wild scales.

Ya can't really decide on one, I know I can't.

Camper; Stockman; Splitback Whittler;Jacks and Pens, those are my top 5 but not necessarily in that order.

Hmm. Stockmen and small jack variations -- ones with wharncliffe or sheepsfoot blades are nice. About the one ones I've seen that I don't like are muskrats and congresses, mostly because if I'm going to be carrying a knife with more than one blade, I want them in a variety of shapes for the most versatility. Also not a huge fan of a spear blade as the primary one, even though I pretty much always carry a SAK.

Jacks, Stockmans and tip bolster pens. Lately I have added a Case USA and a 60"s I*X*L Barehead Jack to the collection.

I like easy open jacks...swaybacks...and dog leg jacks.

I LOOOOVE Jacks, too. Something perfect about a big blade/small blade combo. Something for every situation, but nothing extra that'll weigh you down.

I like Swayback Jacks, Texas Jacks and Doglegs. Whatever you get, if it's Case make sure it's in CV. Sharpens easily and keeps sharp longer.
