OK,

Since the last thread I posted was about your favorite pen, whom here has a favorite pencil? Wood or mechanical, lead size (.05mm, .07mm, or my personal favorite, .09mm , in Pentel, of course) or otherwise.

Now I'm really curious.

Thanks,
Al

I still use an old Staedler with 2mm leads and the "free fall" chuck, also often wood pencils which I sharpen with a pocketknife and carve my name on them.

Ticonderoga #2 wood pencils still rule! :)

My favorite is a Pentel P203 .3mm lead. It can't be beat for a fine line. The only thing is that they are not produced anymore.

As an artist I've tried dozens; I like various size mechanical pencils for sketching at work, since I don't have to carry around exacto-knife, sandpaper, etc. I use 3mm, 5mm, and 9mm.

I still like the standard artist's pencils as well, probably use 2b the most.

Good ol' #2s are not bad, but they all have dreadful erasers.

It must be destiny of some Freudian thing, but yesterday I posted about my old Staedler and yesterday I lost it, it was all battered up with a crack in the barrel fixed with wrapped string, perhaps its time had come.

So last night I took out my box of trinkets and found an even older Faber Castell (probably form the 60´s), the mechanism is a bit stiff but a drop or oil and some use should fix it, I´m carrying that one today.

are woodless ones for sketching. If I don't have my bag with me I'll take any wood pencil and sharpen it with a knife so there's more lead exposed. For writing I always use a pen.

OK, so "campus law enforcement" is a little slow at times. Like, all summer. You can only walk through empty buildings so many times.

I read, and occasionaly sketch a bit. I must admit, it must look a little odd to see a police officer leaning out of the window of the squad car sharpening artist's pencils with a 4" CS voyager...

My boss says he will have to retire when his horde of discontinued Blackwings runs out...

I bought this about ten years ago, the name has long since worn off and I can't recal who makes it. It uses 5mm lead and has a spring action in the lead holding assembly so if you push too hard the lead will spring back into the tip. The best auto pencil I've owned.
By the way, if anyone knows who made it, let me know in case it ever breaks.

a few months ago, I spent a view nights web surfing pencils-in serch of the PERFECT pencil-and the Blackwing is considered to be the best. There are a few websites devoted to people obsesed with pencils. Real nuts unlike us.lol

I like the pentel .05 mm with the clicky thing down on the bottom so you can click as you write. Those things were great in college!

Esav,
Thanks for the response. If my Kohinoor ever bites the dust, at least I'll know what I'm looking for to replace it with.:)
