I get the big 20 packs of Bic 0.7mm pencils. They may not be the toughest or the most memorable things, but I lose writing utensils at an astonishing rate. They do their job well for being El Cheapo.
My favorite to carry around is a Pilot Vanishing point. It looks like a standard mechanical pencil but you can retract the entire point back into the pencil body like a ballpoint pen so it's not so pointy in your pocket. Plus you can rotate a ring around the body of the pencil to indicate what hardness of lead you're carrying around.
I've been using a Papermate PhD Ultra 0.5mm mechanical pencil. The triangular rubber grip makes writing effortless. The ballpoints in this series also rock!
Originally posted by GeeWiz I bought this about ten years ago, the name has long since worn off and I can't recal who makes it. It uses 5mm lead and has a spring action in the lead holding assembly so if you push too hard the lead will spring back into the tip. The best auto pencil I've owned.
By the way, if anyone knows who made it, let me know in case it ever breaks.

I've had mine for about ten years. Love it...though I hate pencils in general. Mine's in .3mm for the fine lines in my Day-Timer. Has always worked like a charm.
