With all the awesome Spyderco Paramilitary 2 sprint runs out and the new s110v production run, there are so many great choices

What is your favorite steel and why?
Which one do you think ranks the best?

Judging from the literal flood of M4 models in the exchange, that ain't it for a lot of people...

I think people are just trying to flip for extra cash, making a fun hobby into a cash flow. Not sure how I feel about it but I can say my M4 is fantastic, I got two. One for me one for my wife, or if she doesn't want it/use it I may sell it down the road.

If I may I'll add a secondary question to the op. What's the best bevel angel for this knife based on the different steels available, past current and future steel choices. Meaning, do different steels perform better with different angles for this particular model.

The little I know about m4 is that it will take a much steeper angle without chipping or rolling as easily as other steels. It's why it falls into the "high speed steel" category. That being said, I like the factory edge on the PM2 platform. Performs great for utility task. I don't ever use it for food prep so I can't speak to that, but that's what kitchen knives are for haha.

To get back on topic: CTS-20CP (CPM-S90V equivalent). That steel seems to hold an edge forever!

Currently it's the Elmax for me; though I do really like the black and orange xhp. Might go for the m4 and carbon fiber that's coming soon .

Exactly. People buying to flip for a quick and free buck. People know how the pm2 sprint secondary market is

There are a lot of people here who are true knife enthusiasts, and a lot of people who don't care about knives they just want to make a quick buck. We each can choose which side we're on.

There may be a relationship but "high speed steel" has to do with its heat treat. In other words it won't lose its heat treat if you heat it to higher temperatures like you might find if you were drilling through a piece of steel and you were going faster than you should.
In my experience M4 steel holds a good edge for a long time, and is tougher than the average stainless steel.

I've owned many of the different PM2 sprints and kept trading up until I got to S110V which I am keeping and using. Now I have the M4 to use as well. I normally consider S110V for EDC and M4 for harder work but for now I'm going to use them both for EDC. I have one S30V version too and I keep it and carry it because I gave it the RIT dye treatment and it is somewhat unique now. If I could have only one it would be a difficult choice. For most people all 3 of these steels would perform well. I did some informal tests between S110V and M4 and they came out pretty close so except for the corrosion issue I may not be able to tell the difference in my normal use.

So far I have S30, S30VN, S110V

Looking to add M4 and anything I can get my hands on

Of the ones I have currently S110V is just fantastic

Good information to know, bdmicarta, always grateful for knowledge.

My favorite PM2 sprint is CPM-3V...
As soon as one is made. ;)
Till then the M4 takes the honors with a couple very close seconds.

I was just thinking that. I'd love a 3v sprint run both in Satin and dlc. And a yojimbo in dlc
