First off, I'm still pretty new here, especially to this forum, so I hope this thread isn't too terribly frivolous.

With that out of the way, I have a plain edge stripped (used to be desert tan) canvas micarta RC-4 (thanks Hoopster!), but I really like the looks of the green/orange G-10 variety...

So, I'm curious which variation of this great knife other people prefer.

(Ok, I'll admit that the orange G-10/od green blade probably calls to me because it reminds me of TMNT -- yay, Mikey) :o:D

Mine is the basic black, plain edge version and it is mighty fine. I'm way too colorful already and require no further adornment.

For the RC-4, I love the desert tan blade and canvas micarta handle - very sharp looking!!!

I have the RC-4 in Desert tan. I like it alot. Really looks sharp and fits my hand well. Having said that any RC-4 is a great RC-4.

i cant get over my RAT PACK orange g-10/ black combo. i would LOVE an rc-4 int hat!

My favorite is the DT RC-4PE, simply because it has my favorite handle, the canvas micarta. Really you could put that handle on any plain edge RC-4 and it would be my favorite.

As Israeli General Moshe Dyan once said, "When I shut one eye they all look pretty good."

Well, to be fair, back when I was an Israeli General, I was drinking a lot. Everything got better when I closed one eye, especially driving.

To me the Desert Tan was about as beautiful as a knife could get when new. Once it gets some use though it's just a dirty tan knife. The Tan Micarta is nice but soaks up skin oils quickly so it gets darker fast. IMO the blade color on any RC-4 is not a factor because in the end it will get worn off some. That leaves the handle material and the orange G-10 will always stay new looking.
I've come to appreciate tools with bright colors because I do landscaping a lot and when using hand pruners, loppers and a hand saw at the same time, tools get dropped and laid around. It's nice to be able to find them quickly again. The last time I was out it struck me that I would have lost either of my RAT knives due to their color.
That said, I'm still holding off on any orange knives.

my favorite variation of an rc-4 is not mine....Horn Dog has one that I'm likin'. mine is just a black one with some srapes. someday I might put it in some stripper but for now she's age'n gacefully...

Keep in mind Hoop that the canvas micarta takes 2 seconds to clean and it comes out looking brand spankin new. Just use dawn and a scrubby with hot water. When you dry the scales, they are perfect again. I clean my handles anytime they get dirty. It also keeps oiliness from building up and thus sacrificing a little bit of grip. Yes, I am anal with my knives if you haven't noticed.

My favorite is the Desert tan with the canvas micarta scales. The canvas micara is so "grippy" when wet and also has a great texture dry. It is my favorite scale material.

Another vote for the desert tan, canvas micarta PE RC-4. The handles have that sophisticated yet rustic look that just can't be beat. Grippy too.

Orange might very well be my favorite color. Has been for years, so that's probably the deciding factor. I'm not sure whether I like it in tandem with the OD Green blade or not, but that's where using it comes in. Like Hoopster said, the coating won't last forever :D
