Favorite SAK

My favorite is the Compact model for EDC. I also like the Soldier and Rucksack for hiking/camping/paddling. Course I like the Tinker, too. Too many to choose.

Why is it that we always lose knives, but it seems no one ever finds any?

The SAK that I carry everyday is the Wenger Handyman. The combination of tools are perfect for me and unavailable in a Victorinox.
I have several Victorinox models and think the Cybertool 34 is a great design.

I recently discovered SAKs (never had one before) - a $20 Tinker and I am amazed!!! I paid ONLY $20 for this knife which IMO gives many slipjoint manufacrurers a run for theeir money in fit and finish and bang for buck. I have used it for all manner of jobs and am amazed at its quality and versatility. Am hooked and am thinking about next SAK - maybe Soldier or Recruit or a Huntsman for hunting trips!!!!

My EDC is a recruit. On camping adventures I carry a Ruksak. I just purchased a Huntsman for my son who just had his 7th b-day and a camper for myself.

My favorite is the Tinker. It has everything that i need for edc and camping.
Large and small flat heads
phillips head
small blade
large blade
awl
bottle opener
can opener
toothpick
tweezers
cost 19 bucks at target:D

>"It seems that the Victorinox is a runaway favorite over the Wenger for most people...why is that?"

====================================

This has been discussed a thousand times over. Please check the archives.

Six String Samurai - A lot of it, but not all of it, is because Victorinox was founded
16yrs(?) before Wenger was. So they are considered to be the orginal SAK.

Also, it seems that the blades on the Victorinox hold a better edge than Wenger...there's more but the archives as suggested would be a better source for this.

Over the years I have carried alot of different SAKs and have several favorites.
I like the aluminum ones for their strength, but they don't have as many features as the plastic-scaled ones.

My favorite and EDC right now is the Wenger serrated Backpacker.
It has the usual SAK features plus a woodsaw. It's not too large for easy pocket-carry--a problem with some SAKs (especially the Vics IMO).
I have recently developed a great fondness with the SAK woodsaw. Pound for pound, it will outcut about any pocket-knife around.

I also like both Victorinox and Wenger and you can't go wrong with either brand. There really is'nt enough of a difference between the two for me to discount one over the other (it's like comparing a Honda and a Toyota).

Good luck,
Allen.

I like the Victorinox and cannot say the Wegner is worse because I don't own any. I would guess the reason Victorinox is more popular is because you see them more in stores than you do the Wegner.

Has anyone seen/handled the new Victorinox Trailmaster with the hole in the main blade for opening? It isn't round like a Spyderco but the photo on their web site shows it as an oval. That feature would be nice, having a one hand opening Swiss Army, adding a clip would be the cat's meow! :)

Another nice small one that I haven't seen mentioned is the Rambler. The FieldMaster is also real useful for providing a saw and scissors, as well as the usual tools.
