Lately, I've gotten into buying less expensive knives, and the SAK's are at the head of the bunch. I don't know how many I have right now, but I do have my favorites. Mine are the Cadet, MiniChamp, Tinker, and Soldier. What are yours?

I used to have a ton of SAKs, then traded or sold off a lot to fund a bunch of tac-folders. Fortunately for me the tac-folder thing was just a thing I went through and finally got over it. I returned to traditional / SAKs about a year or so ago.

Anyways I suppose my favorites would have to be the Soldier and the Explorer. The trailmaster is working its way up my favorites list though.

My fave is Victorinox Huntsman, just the right size with pretty much everything you might need.

Also this might be a good time to point out the difference between Victorinox and Wenger. Victorinox is made in the German speaking region of Switzerland while Wenger is made in the French section. Needless to say, especially these days, I prefer Victorinox.

I like the Explorer and the Rambler. I wish they could put the phillips screwdriver on the ends of more models.

Ones I don't have but want include the Pioneer, Picknicker, and Tradesman, as I don't have any of the large locking or metal handled ones.

And, I like Victorinox better than Wegner, I think their quality is better over-all. But, Wegner's aren't bad knives. Just not as good as V-noxs.

 I take it you're holding the French-speaking people of Switzerland somehow responsible for or accountable for the state of politics in FRANCE right now? Give me a freaking break. What's next, boycotting French fries? Not watching your favorite baseball team if they happen to be playing the Montreal Expos!? Grow up.

As to my favorite SAK .... the 84mm Spartan.

Relax, you weenie. I own both Wenger and Victorinox. I've been all over Switzerland three times. But I like Victorinox better, and that's my preference. And yes, perhaps french fries should be re-named, and I never did like the Expos.:p

My favorite, and the one I carry every day, is the Victorinox SwissChamp XLT. It just about needs its own trailer, but it comes pretty close to being a portable tool chest. :)

it's got everything (except the pliers) that I actually use on my Gerber multi-tool and none of the stuff I don't. So it's there when I need it instead of being in the car or my bag. Herdly know it's on my belt.

Gee, I have scads of SAKs(all Victorinox) and love 'em all. I guess my favorites would be the pioneer/farmer (aluminum handle), the handyman (lots of tools but less enormous than the Champ)and all the keychain models.

My favorites, right now, are the Camper and Huntsman. Because I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, the SAK mdoels with saws tend to be my favs. I have a Huntsman in my pocket at this very moment. The locking Tradesman is also an excellent knife.

I keep a Soldier in the golve box of my Ranger at all times. It is one of five V'nox that I own. IMO it has all the tools that one would normally need in a knife of that size. I also have a Bantam that I got at the beach three years ago for $6.99. I know that it is on the low end of SAKs but it's a sweet little knife for the price.

I have owned a Rucksack for years. My wife has a pink Classic on her keyring.
I like the look of the Locksmith. It looks like a Trailmaster with a metal saw/file.

and has been my EDC for nearly 20 years is the Victorinox Scientist (still made, but long discountinued in the USA) -

Main blade
Combo Tool (screwdriver/can opener/cap lifter/wire stripper)
Phillips screwdriver
magnifying glass
corkscrew
jewellers screwdriver (stored in corkscrew)
toothpick
tweezers
ballpoint Pen
straight Pin

all just 3.5" long and only 2 backsprings wide - fits nice and easily in the pocket.

I used to laugh at the magnifying glass and felt it was almost an obigatory added tool for having the Phillips screwdriver in the main/front section - but with advancing age, I find it's one of my most use tools :o :o

Phillips screwdriver in main/front section?
Ah... that allows the screwdriver to be used in-line with the handle, but (just like the combo tool screwdriver) the heel of the tool is deliberately squared so that it can also be used at right angles for greater torque (now that's "proper" design.....)

Mine is customized with "stage" handles (actually scored ivory micarta) that has been inletted to fit the normal in handle tools.

Perhaps I should explain -
the Kershaw/Ken Onion Leek in the photo is my at home only EDC - I would love to EDC it off my property - but despite Kershaw's extensive legal research - I'd much prefer not to have to argue its legality -
hence my EDC of a SAK, which not only is useful with many tools - but easily recognizable, and not often considered a "weapon".....

For Air Travel - I leave my customized SAK at home - as I do not want any chance of losing the knife.
Instead I carry a plain Victorinox Yeoman model which adds over the Scientist model-
scissors, and the unbiquitous "universal hook (also parcel carrier)"

I pack this in my checked luggage to EDC in my pocket after arriving at my destination.....

Well, it's really hard to choose a favorite. I like specific ones for specific reasons.

When it comes to the aluminum alox SAKs, my favorite is the Victorinox Electrician.

For the plastic scaled SAKs, my pick is the Wenger Handyman.

Good luck,
Allen.
