Favorite Schrade Pattern?

Actually, it is an Imperial cattle knife. If I remember right, the stamp dates it between 1935 and 1956? I'd have to look it up again. I'm not even sure it has a model number stamped into it to be truthful. Thanks for asking.

Chuck

Thank you. I need to keep my eyes open for one.

My first knife ever was the 34OT, but I really like the longer 61OT for comfortable use.

But in reality I like them all, as long as they say Old Timer. :D

My pure blood Schrade would be this TL-29 version w/ no bail. These old model 204s also had a half stop. It fits in a belt sheath really slick. Taking a Jackknife like track- carry only what you really need, these electrician style knives suit the current lifestyle. I seldom need to knife fight with a ninga, skin any fur animals or castarate any stock. I scrape on metal parts and wire and turn screws on stuff all the time. The old carbon can get wickedly sharp and its patina is always sort of a artwork in progress....and besides that skillful and CONSERVATIVE re-sharpening is a artform in itself........300

My mixed blood Schrade would be this first model Buck stockman, contracted thru Schrade back in 1966-67. Bring on the young bulls , feed sacks and the harness leather.

300, I'd like to see a Camillus made 301 for comparison as i'm not sure how to tell the Schrade Bucks from the Camillus Bucks.
Thanks. you are the great Buck teacher !

I don't have a Camillus 301 Roland, for a comparison shot, but I'm sure 300 does. I can easily tell by how much the Schrade made Buck 301's match the serpentine handle shape of an 8OT, and the Cami's don't have that pronounced swerve. The blade shapes are nearly identical. The Schrade 301's have the unmistakeable swedge that commences on the long pull too. Schrade marked all blades on most of them.

My intention is not to hijack the thread, but on a Schrade made Buck 301, the DNA is somewhat apparent.

Hal, thanks, but i thought the Schrade made 301's had grooved bolsters ? Yours looks more like the Camillus made one to me.
This confusion on my part is why i'd like to see them both in the same pic. roland
Camillus is not a Schrade hijack. they made lots of knives for each other (as all we Schradies know).

I think it has to be the 8OT for me as well!!

This one by far. You don't know what I would do to get one like that. I would....oh lets just say I am insanely jealous right now and saved that picture. 8OT for sure. One of the best knives ever made.

Hal,

What kind of handle material and shield is on that old timer? Is that black delrin? Was that an SFO or limited edition?

It's a genuine odd ball hybrid Schrade Walden open to interpretation. I'd like it a lot better with a standard shield. I've never seen one just like it.

Hal has it on target,

Schrade made Buck 301s vs Camillus made. The swedge goes back over the nic on the Schrades. Never on Camillus. Its quick to see, you don't have to open the knife, its the key IDer I try to teach people. Its the same for the model 303 also. Visible pivot pins is the Camillus for certain method...but you sometimes need a mag glass to find them. Breathing on the bolster sometimes doesn't work well.
