Favorite Sheath Material?

Do you have a favorite sheath material? I really like leather, but I recently got a 710 kydex sheath and love it. So, I'm pretty much torn. And, add to that, in doing my due diligence before asking this question I searched sheath threads and I see a lot of folks making great use of their cordura sheaths.

So. Confusing. Personal opinions?

I don't think anything can beat the looks or feel or the smell of a good Leather Sheath or Holster made by the right Custom Leather Person.! I know my Beckers and every Custom Knife I own has a Custom Leather Sheath and I gave away all my Sheaths that were not Leather and made a few people very happy and I was glad they were happy as we all have different likes and dislikes in Knives and Sheaths ~~ that is what makes the world go around.!!**

I prefer kydex for my knives...imo I think every knife should come with kydex or atleast made as an available option. The condura sheaths wouldn't be as bad if they were made the same size as the knife they're meant for, I hate how the sheath is a good 3-4" longer than the knife it holds.

Leather looks nice and if you're in a dry environment they're great.

I just use the cordura sheath. Till it wears out which takes it a long time. Then I'll worry about another sheath. In other words I'll cross that bridge when I come to it

On something like the 9 I don't mind it as much, but on the tweeners I hate it, bc of how much longer it is...I'll edc my 16 once my kydex arrives, but not with the condura...it makes it look like I'm carrying a much larger blade which can draw unwanted attention in some less knife friendly places I go for work. I like my edc fixed blades to ride a lil high and snug to my body so a hoody or shirt mostly conceals em.

For EDC I prefer leather, but for out in the woods I prefer kydex :)

I really love good kydex. I've had not so good kydex, but the good stuff really does it for me. No snaps or straps for retention, just a good CLICK. I've always been drawn to synthetic materials for all weather outdoor stuff.

With that said, I definitely don't mind our factory becker sheaths. I like the carry hight and the pouch. Attachment options are nice. I've experimented carrying my 9 in the factory sheath upside down attached with the molle to my backpack. The snaps and straps made me feel pretty secure with this.

Whatevers cheapest.:p If i got a choice though like kydex for it's durability and keeping secured retention on the knife longer than leather. Leather is more comfortable usually though and has a more "classy" look IMO. I more or less like and or can get use out of any sheath material. Going for comfort and looks leather, performance and durability kydex.

I've got a local guy that makes custom leather with Kydex inserts....best of both worlds IMHO

Just thick and heavy leather for this here old school guy.
Nothin better in my opinion.

I'd probably like leather more if a quality leather sheath didn't typically cost 3 times as much as the knife. It's bad enough quality kydex costs as much as a knife lol.

Kinda like the guy who carry's a beautiful BBQ grade Colt or Smith & Wesson in a cheap Uncle Mikes holster.
Fine knives deserve fine leather.

I hate kydex. Mostly because it's loud, marks up my knives, and....plastic. Just my opinion. I love a nice water formed leather sheath, and I've got one real nice custom leather sheath that is sublime as well. Leather sheathes do require maintenance though, which is nice if you like maintaining your gear. I do. I feel like most nylon sheathes lack quality but I do like my Texas Hunt/Spec Ops sheathes for quality and looks. I just use one for my back up knife since they have a kydex insert.

A quality made kydex sheath shouldn't mark up your blade, it shouldn't even touch the blade typically. The only one I've had mark the blade was a horribly done sheath to begin with.

I own one kydex, made by one of the highest acclaimed for quality and even though the blade floats freely when it's engaged, it contacts it on its way in and fastens to the handle. But I will say.....the knife is a Swamprat with a very thick coating, and as durable as it is, it doesn't take much to mark it. I keep it in leather now. But like I said, that's my opinion, and my preference that been shaped by MY experience. I'm still happy if someone is using kydex, just not me. :)

I like leather. This sheath for my BK2 is hand made of very good quality leather. The knife fits securely and snaps into place but easily unsheathed with a slight tug, One would have to be bounced on their head upside down to get it to fall out.

I consider myself a youngster, but as I grow older my tastes have gone from tactical to traditional. I spent my time in the military and used to be cloaked in coyote nylon and black knives and firearms but these days I just like Carhartt brown, lever action rifles, wooden handled knives and 1911's, and leather sheathes. :)

Courbouilled leather. Best of both worlds. I've made sheaths and holsters from leather that have the stiffness and retention of kydex, with the look (and feel) of leather. Not sure why more people don't do it, TBH. They're even water resistant.
