Favorite Sheath Material?

I consider myself a youngster, but as I grow older my tastes have gone from tactical to traditional. I spent my time in the military and used to be cloaked in coyote nylon and black knives and firearms but these days I just like Carhartt brown, lever action rifles, wooden handled knives and 1911's, and leather sheathes. :)

That's what I like too.

TBH I do like me some kydex. I really love that 'snap'. I know you can get that from well made leather as well but I spose I'm a bit too tacticooooool. I like the versatility of the eyelets regarding attachments on kydex and the colours. Oh the colours. The Lions. The Tigers. The Bears. Oh my. I think I'm too much of a hippie. No skins for me. Just good old polluntinist-the-waterways plastic for me.. But seriously, I truly do like the versatility of Kydex. It appeals my skin off.. Also, I'm a lazy POS.. :D

I'm a leather guy, but can appreciate the value of all different material for different environments. If I'm in a situation that allows for a little protection (or just want to show off), it's gotta be leather. But I am a little bias because I dabble with leather as a hobby. Never enough time to even build sheaths for older blades, let alone all the new ones I keep being enticed by.

But if I know that I'm going to be getting a little gritty, I'd probably grab nylon, kydex, or hybrid.

My latest build (for an unnamed brand [emoji23]) actually came with a great sheath. Nylon w/ insert, and all kinds of built-in functionality. But for around home and work, I NEED leather. So here's my version of a simple stacked leather belt sheath.

I do build in a little functionality though. The belt attachment and retention strap are connected with sandwiched Chicago Screws, so they can be changed, altered, or just removed with a quick flathead screwdriver. I currently have a simple clip on it now. Makes for easy belt on off when I'm not worried about loss. But could easily be switched to a solid belt loop, dangler, horizontal, or pack attach, or anything imagination can come up with. But if I were to go rough it for a few days, I'd probably grab the original. ;)
