  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Favorite soap?

WRIGHTS_AND_PEARS_LIQUID_SOAP.jpg

After loads of requests from family and friends I am going to do what I did decades ago - make my own soap, shampoo, shower gel, disinfectant, perfume, aftershave and candles oh and medicines !
Just liquid extracts, tisanes, embrocations and salves plus I`ll get my mortar and pestle out and my pill - rolling machine - have some fun.
I`m a bit of a rusty medical herbalist - having not really practised for ages but I surprised myself the other week by totally getting rid of my friend`s mouth ulcer in half a day - I kid you not - the dentist couldn`t believe it - no antibiotics, no steroids, no extractions, no toothache haha.
Just some myrrh, garlic, peppermint and cypress essential oils plus alum powder, bicarb of soda, 3% hydrogen peroxide and Himalayan salt mouth-washes - done.
My friend was crying in pain and I couldn`t see her suffer - bless her - now she trusts witch doctors - haha - well I have an Org Chem degree as well !
My friend is scared of dentists and didn`t go to one for 25 years - oh well - nevermind.

So... as regards soaps I`m gonna get 5 litres of unrefined virgin olive oil and some caustic soda - put some thick rubber gloves on and mix in the absolutes and essential oils.
I`m not going to use chemical stabilisers and preservatives or artificial colours and I may try hot and cold mixes using tallow and glycerine and a double-boiler / bain-marie ( not a microwave lol ) , find my thermometer and jugs etc and do custom cosmetics and cleaning supplies.

For now I am using Wrights Coal Tar Soap and Pears glycerine because my new lady friend loves the smell - it takes her back to her childhood - aaawww.
I don`t use a shaving brush or a mirror so liquid soap is fine for me.

Arko, baby. Go cheap or go home! I also like some of the English brands (TOBS, GFT, and especially, Truefitt & Hill). I must have close to 20 different shaving soaps and creams (along with too many razors and brushes).

Here is some of the hardware I run with the Sterling soaps. Have a fresh refill of Electric Sheep withe some coffee and bath soap coming in tomorrow. Going to try their new deodorant as well. I keep a tub of Razorock XXX around too.20241109_075211.jpg

Some of you guys are super fancy! I've tried a few want to be fancy shave soaps and feel like the cheap stuff like Van Der Hagen to the actual fancy stuff acts about the same. If I found anything to be better it was the sort of translucent glycerin pucks of soap. I do prefer a warm water soaked boar brush to the softer and way more expensive badger brushes. I kept getting crazy specials on hundred packs of blades so I probably still have over a thousand double sided blades.

And yet I can shave just as well with some Softsoap or Head and Shoulders.

I've been shaving for over 60 years now, and I don't look on wet shaving as some spiritual ritual, that requires all kinds of special tools & accessories. It's just the most effective way I've found to scrape hair off my face.

For shaving, Paraso Red.
for the body, Ivory, been using it since the 50s.
Not the one with Marilyn Chambers on it, that was Ivory Snow.

*Barrister and Mann for the smells.
* Stirling for the best shave for the buck.
* Murphy and McNeil Kodiak for the ladies.

FER-A-CHEVAL-SOAP-LOAF.jpg

I like multi-purpose trad French Marseille Soap - my fave is 72% Olive Fer 'a Cheval 2 KG (4.4 lbs) loaves.
It is super-fatted and has so much glycerine in it it moisturises deeply and is super slick - fabulous with a cut-throat.

I used a big bar of this in France and it lasted my family of four, two cats, two dogs, two horses, two goats and did the pick-up and caravan with it, used it for laundry, dishes, the walls, floor, shoe polish and toothpaste - plus shaving - it lasted over a year !
