I am interested to know peoples favorite steels in a few different categories. Shoot me more categories if their should be any. Im thinking just basic categories though.

Edc folder or fixed,
Camp knife
Survival knife

For me i would say in order:
M390
M4
420hc
i choose m390 for favorable all-around attributes. M4 for days of sharpness and good toughness with some corrsion resistance. And 420hc for toughness and corrosion while having satisfactory edge holding. I am no expert in survival so that last one is a safe guess.

I got a neck knife in O-1 at 63 HRC, chisel grind, excellent cutting power. Still trying to figure out how to sharpen it with ny setup (very small and chisel grind), but awesome steel

To hickory steel, a knife you would take camping for a weekend or up to a week
Ok.

Edc ,camp, and survival -whatever Victorinox uses ( I know it works, so it doesn't matter what it is )

Camp, and survival - whatever carbon steel imperial used for my H6 fixed blade

Camp, and survival- Vaughan & Bushnell 1085

My EDC will still be with me, I don't do the whole one tool option, and if I end up in a survival situation my survival cutting tools would be what I took out with me.

Folders - M390

Fixed blade - CPM CruWear(no experience with it on a fixed blade yet but hot damn has it preformed exceptionally well on my Manix. If it's as tough as people say it'd be a great steel for medium-large fixed blades.)

Folder - Elmax, CTS-XHP, M390

Fixed blade - 3V

I imagine you will get a lot of M390 and 3V as they set the bar pretty high.

EDC/Folder: 20CV, M4, Cruwear
Camp: SR101/52100, 3V, Vanadis 4 Extra
Chop: 1095

Edc folder or fixed - s35vn
Camp knife - D3V
Survival knife - Cru-V
Kitchen Knife (sorry had to round out the tools) - O7

Edc or small fixed blade, 01 or A2 for carbon steels, for stainless, cpm154 or cm154.
Chopper, 1095 or 5160.

O-1 all around. Wish I could find a folder in o-1 :(

@wanderson, I would check out Great Eastern Cutlery for a folder in 01, I got one that looks like a Sod Buster, and I like the half blade stop too. It is called the
Bull Nose with micarta handle, part of the Farm and Field series.

M390, 3V, 154cm.

I'd want something stainless (hence 154cm) for survival since it would be out in the elements without being able to care for it.

My favorite PM steel would be CPM-154, my favorite non PM steel would be Sandvik 14c28n. Favorite fixed blade steel would be 1095. Favorite all around folder steel would surprisingly be 154cm, there's just a million knives in it and the steel performs great.
