I like the tactical models. Mainly because of the ergonomics of the handles. I love when the handle is shaped in such a way that you have a more secure grip on the knife. I do prefer a mix of blade styles however.

If we could get some texturing on the micarta slabs, that would be perfect.

hey now. how can folks vote for more than one "favorite"?! :D

my vote is in! (i know everyone was waiting with bated breath)

oh sorry...looks like i failed too. ;) i forgot to say why.

my vote was for EDC style. i like the size. even when outdoors, i find it does most things well. i'm not going to baton anything much with it, or chop obviously. but, everything else...yyyup. i'm with myke...for car camping, i prefer to carry a small fixed blade and a chopper, whether it be knife or hatchet/axe.

i understand arguments made for a folder. i carry a Vic farmer everywhere, so i suppose "folder" should have been my favorite. i mean...i think i just admitted to just using my small fixed blade for mostly cutting tasks. if that's my use, then a folder would be fine. BUT...i'll tell ya...there is just something about a well made "EDC-size" fixed blade. it has a certain feel i can't seem to get from a folder. though...i have not tried any of the "high end" folders.

btw...anyone carry a spyderco sage 1? i bought one for my son when he went off to college last year. i played with it for a couple minutes. and i must say, i was rather impressed. haven't got around to getting another though. i do find myself sometimes wishing my li'l SAK was a one-handed opener.

P.S. and like others have said...for me, knife use is task dependent. i have told you what my favorite is. but, if were hiking and not car camping, i would not bring an EDC and a chopper, i would bring one larger knife (and my farmer, of course). then, a 4-5" blade length knife would be my "favorite". ;) why is this question so hard?? :)

edc 3 inches and under, because I can have it on me. I prefer fixed blades because in folders there's mechanics involved and mechanics can fail (I know, a little simplified view, but that's basically what I think).

I voted for small EDC . . . I have it with me all the time , but I carry a folder also and I loan scissors for people at work .

My favorites are traditional fixed blades. I like the big ones to look at and play with and I love the smaller ones to carry and use.
Lately I've been really missing my old Western Bird and Trout knives. They were tiny but did a lot of work for their size. Thank God I have an EWOK.

Right now I'm gravitating toward a folder for my edc and I carry that 100% of the time. Then I add something to it when I go off pavement. When it's warm and I'm dayhiking it's a mora or an izula 2. Camping or bad weather I'm going with a camp knife, Scrapyard 711. Seems I mainly just split wood so I'm not using an axe anymore because I feel the knife splits better where the axe chops better. Anytime I feel I need to chop, I throw my Silky pocket boy in my pack. In reality the saw and the folder do the work. The fixed is for fun.
