Favorite Survival Movies?

Have to agree on Snow walk and the 70's My side of the mountain, a young boy takes off and lives in a hollowed out tree, book is better. Anyone caught Alone in the wilderness? I liked lost but now they have electric power and showers and Locke aint hunting pigs its not the same.
Quest for fire was really good.

Was "Walkabout" the one where the guy shoots himself and leaves his young kids stranded in the out back, and stared a young Jenny Agutter?
Yes. It is a cool movie. An aborigine takes the children under his wing.

I was going to say "Jeremiah Johnson," too, but, T. Erdelyi beat me too it! I could only think of Robert Redford wearing furs, and couldn't recall the name of the movie! ;)

How about Marathon Man? Without Oil of Cloves, he would've been toast!

Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze

Man in the Wilderness with Richard Harris.....based on a true story!

Naked Prey with Cornell Wilde....what a run!

My vote goes to Mary Ann! Definitely! Dawn Wells had it all over Tina Louise!

Castaway with Tom Hanks, someone with no training has to learn on his own what it takes to survive.

The Earthling with William Holden and Ricky Schroeder- a lot of depth in the interaction between the man teaching the boy how to survive not just the outback but life and death.

I had completely forgotten about "Man in the Wilderness" ---how could I forget the prarie schooner ?

I have , for years, been looking for the name of that movie, The Earthling. Thank you very much, Persev ! I originally saw it on HBO years ago and have been looking for it.

Interesting point about Nanook : the next winter, he and his family starved to death. Harsh life up there, but I will never forget him just waiting, staring at that feather. That's concentration.

For a different enviroment, Dead Calm. The good guy does some incredible survivial work on that boat.

-Deliverance
-First Blood
-Jeremiah Johnson
-Quest for fire
-The Donner Party (PBS documentry)

The Rabbit Proof Fence

Plot Outline In 1931, three aboriginal girls escape after being plucked from their homes to be trained as domestic staff and set off on a trek across the Outback.
Plot Synopsis: This is the true story of Molly Craig, a young black Australian girl who leads her younger sister and cousin in an escape from an official government camp, set up as part of an official government policy to train them as domestic workers and integrate them into white society. With grit and determination Molly guides the girls on an epic journey, one step ahead of the authorities, over 1,500 miles of Australia's outback in search of the rabbit-proof fence that bisects the continent and will lead them home. These three girls are part of what is referred to today as the 'Stolen Generations.'

"Robinson Crusoe on Mars"
"The life and times of Grizzly Adams"
"Predator"

I though I was the only person to have EVER saw that movie...
GREAT survival movie about a castaway on Mars...

Maryanne of course... Farm girls are anything BUT innocent...:D

"Island in the Sky" with John Wayne written by Ernest K. Gann and directed by William A. Wellman.
Great movie, and not a typical John Wayne movie at all... There is a scene where he is watching a search plane fly over them and miss seeing them, where you could just SEE the despair in his face... It looked like the 'Duke' was going to break down and CRY!!!
