Favorite Swiss Army Knife?

For all you SAK fans, what is your favorite brand and model? I prefer the Victorinox overall but I think the scissor/pliers spring is too weak. Over the years I have owned Victorinox: Tinker, Supertinker, Recruit(probably the smallest knife I would carry), and Camper. Wenger: Viking, Trout, and another one that I don't know the name of (it's like the Vic. Recruit but has a corkscrew and awl).

The Victorinox are also my favorite of the SAK's.
My personal favorite is the Waiter.
The only survival gear applies to wine bottles.
Ah... the tough life.

Victorinox all the way!!!

Best - Camper; runner-up - FieldMaster (?). The FM has more stuff, including a Philips, but loses the corkscrew

and has a kinda dumb hook thing

I am also a Victorinox guy and my fave is the Swiss Champ. It has everything you could need and then some even a kitchen sink (well alright maybe not but you could make one).

For me it's the Victorinox Classic. I'm a minimalist at heart, and the Classic, while very small, contains everything I need in a pocket knife... sharp blade, tweezers, scissors. Lots of utility in a small package!

Definitely Victorinox - but I can't say why. I just like them better.

I picked up a Recruit at a yard sale last weekend. Never sharpened, with slight scratches on the scales, for twenty-five cents! Gotta be the best knife deal I ever got.

Victorinox Pionnier with main blade, sheepsfoot, screwdriver, awl, saw and silver alox scales. Second best is the Farmer, with can opener instead of the sheepsfoot.

The Soldier with aluminum scales, can opener + mini screwdriver, bottle opener + bigger screwdriver and an awl, witch also is a great tool for drilling smaller holes.

Rats. I am the lone defender of Wenger.

I have the Photon Esquire, and I also gave one to my wife. I carry it every day.

For in the woods, I have two: a regular size, red handled one with locking main blade, pen blade, wood saw, can and bottle openers, awl with eyelet, tweezers, tootpick, and corkscrew. Then a large, black handled one (Mountaineer?) with locking main blade, wood saw, can and bottle openers, awl, and phillips screwdriver. I was influenced by an article on the desirability of a wood saw, and I like a locking main blade.

I was originally given a Wenger Esquire as a first SAK,and thought the scissors and tweezers were much better than Victorinox. So I have stuck to Wenger.

I have a Wenger Handyman in the glovebox of each car plus a spare, as they were available for less than 1/2 of typical retail. I've gotten some good use out of a Swiss Champ that was given to me, the one in the survival pouch with the compass and such. I like the Champ as kind of a small tool kit, the Camper as a complement to the original Leatherman and for my kids, and the Scientist for lighter carry.

Yeah, what is that hook thing? It looks like the thing we used to use as kids to tighten out ice skates.

Victorinox all the way! I am neither a "minimalist" or a "maximist" but opt for the model with the features I use constantly and the ones I expect to use -- hence I vote for the "Fieldmaster." As an article in "Tactical Knives" once said, and is proven quite easily, the SAK saw will sever a two-by-four faster than chopping with most large knives!

The hook thing is for carrying stringed packages, according to Swiss Army Brands, something I rarely do, but it doesn't take up much space and didn't make the knife any thicker so was basically free.

I go for the Victorinox Adventurer. It has the same functions as the Tinker, but it has a locking 3.25" blade.

Ahh, the Swiss Army, funny name as I have never met anyone in the Swiss Army, but a popular brand none the less!

My favorite is the Mechanic and the Scientist and the Swiss Tool and the one that rides in my left pocket EVERYDAY is the Executive, most handy knife!

I love SAKs, have mostly Victorinox, but a few Wengers too. Lately have liked carrying the Tradesman by Wenger, that includes pliers, scissors,Large and small blades, bottle, can openers, straight and phillips screw drivers, awl, tweezers and toothpick.Ive noticed that some Wengers are slightly smaller than their counterparts in the Victorinox line. However,it does seem that Wengers "keychain" line is somewhat larger than the Victorinox equivalent. The pocket tool chest, for example seems close to a Vic. Executive in size. Oh how I dread the next trip to the store...finding a SAK that I dont own yet...

I'll second the Victorinox Soldier, followed by their Spartan model.

Great posts guys. There are two mentioned that I'm not familiar with. What are the features of the Farmer and the Scientist. And what can you do with the corkscrew in the field?

Well, one of my favs for outdoor use is the Explorer. Swiss-knife has one with a saw which is even more useful.

For daily carry, I used to like the Yeoman best, until I found how much better Leatherman's scissors were on the Micra and the Wave. So I got the Scientist. (obviously, an inline phillips driver is important to me)

I recently retired my Scientist for a CyberTool. I got the Cybertool 29 (sans scissors, for reasons mentioned above, and pliers, since my Wave never leaves my side). It is the perfect compliment to my Wave. I highly recommend it to anyone that opens up computers regularly.

Thanks,

Clay
