Favorite Swiss Army Knife?

My favorites are the Ranger, Climber and Executive. The Executive can be carried unnoticed in a pair of dress slacks and the Ranger is good in a pack or briefcase. I got my first Climber almost 20 years ago and I've had one ever since so that model has a lot of sentimental value.

I've been told that my Victorinox that looks like a Yeoman without the scissors is a Scientist. It has a phillips opposite a magnifying glass, a medium screwdriver/bottle opener opposite the main blade, a corkscrew with a small screwdriver nested in it, a straight pin under the corkscrew, and a ballpoint pen in addition to the toothpick and tweezers.

The only useful thing to come from my experience with the Cub Scouts was a small Victorinox I found on the ground at the end of a camp... The tips of the blades were broken off, and after a few years of abuse one side of the handle fell off, but after all those years it was still sharp enough to be somewhat useable! Absolutely amazing. But I was absolutely disgusted by the new models. The old one I have is like a Tinker, but with a saw blade. But the new version has a cork screw instead of a screwdriver, one of the things I used the most! Well, finally last month I just gave in and bought a Tinker. Hey! A little belt pouch! Much nicer than digging around in the bottom of my pockets... And it turns out I don't miss the saw that much, as it almost never got used. And those $5 imitations are really annoying... I have a few old ones that are complete crap. I'm afraid to use the blades! But for some reason those really cheap phillips screwdrivers are usually fairly small and oddly-shaped, which often turn out to be suprisingly useful! Much better than that blunt stub on my Gerber multi-tool.

I like the one that has the "cross" on the left scale.

Great topic, guys !
IMO: SAKs are the best and the most balanced POCKET multitools due to their small but sufficient dimensions and multiusage possibilities (I remember that SAK is in my pocket only when I need it).
My favorites are the Victorinox "Climber", "Ranger" and "Skipper" ('cause I own them

).
At my daily routine I always carry the "Climber" and when I'm going to "outdoor" I replace it with the "Ranger". They are good "backstays" for my Leatherman "Wave". I have used EVERY tool of these knives - even a hook (from wire pulling from a hole in a wall up to dirty net pulling from a river). Scissors are quite sufficient for me (I'm not going to cut a sheetiron with them). Spike of "Skipper" much better then tradition (IMO) but pliers is absolutely unuseful for me (nothing is perfect ...)

MIKLE

P.S.: Hey, "Swiss Champ" guys, how do you manage to handle this enormous tool ?

I really have no preference between Victorinox and Wenger. Both companies make knives of very approximate equal quality.

However, for some reason, I tend to buy more Wenger models than Victorinox. I just have a feeling that they are more "substantial".

I carry a SwissBuck TaskMate II made by Wenger but marketed in a joint venture between Wenger and Buck Knives.

My other SAK favorite is the Standard Issue which is essentially just like a Boy Scout Utility pocketknife. I have both a Victorinox and Wenger model of the Standard Issue. This is the same knife that the Swiss Army Issues to their soldiers. It is also very similar in design to the Camillus utility pocketknife that is a standard supply item for our military.

I like the Wenger Huntsman the most. Saw, large blade, scizzors, and a few other tools make it best for a wide variety of tasks and the knife is very slim.

You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

The Wenger Handyman is my everyday SAK. This model has a saw blade, scissors, and the feature I like best a phillips screwdriver instead of the corkscrew.

I tend to favor the Wenger knives, if only for a sentimental reason. There was this girl that I used to work with a few years back and I always had a crush on her. I had a girlfriend at the time, who I eventually married, but I have always had a soft spot for that other girl. I occasionally email her, seldom get a reply and vary rarely get to see her. Her name was J. Wenger. I know that this isn't really a logical reason to like one knife brand over another, but all else being equal in my mind, it makes sense.

Even so, I carry a Victorinox classic daily.

Married? Past tense? Present tense?
If you're still married and going on about that "other girl" in your daydreams, we may have a new post on "SAK - which is best for a crime of passion."
