favorite tactical folders

Emerson knives as a design seem like they'd be good tactical folders, but i have a hard time believing anything less than 4" can be considered tactical. That's not to say a 3" blade can't do serious damage, but it's hardly disabling immediately. I could kill someone with an xacto knife.......if i wanted it to take a half an hour and get my own self killed in the process.

Out of knives I own, or have. I like my Striders the best. Followed by my Emerson CQC-8. I also like the DPx HEST, Spyderco Manix 2 G10 and CS American Lawman w/mods.

Never cared for the ZT 0200. With the overly aggressive G10 and weight......it just never did it for me. Same with most Cold Steel and their older G10. My favorite Cold Steel for EDC is the American Lawman after some sanding of the scales to make it easier to deploy and less damaging to my pants.

Emerson commander/15
Brous Silent Soldier flipper and Reloader
Extrema Ratio fulcrum and Nemesis
Benchmade 757 Vicar

I'm not much of a tactical folder kind of guy, but I do have a Benchmade Contego. It definitely fits the bill.

I'm not generally a tactical folder guy, but I do feel safer with my Manix 2 in my pocket :)

Well, the pm2 has military n the name so its probably tactical. So that would be my favorite.

If I where still in the army I'd still never consider a folder for anything "tactical".

why, its not just for defense, if you get a overbuilt one it can be a great survival tool

Why is that exactly? Most "overbuilt" knives aren't necessarily stronger or better suited to cutting. As long as you're using the basic pattern of titanium frame/liner lock, blade, scales and stop pin, the only thing that thicker & heavier parts guarantee is an increase in weight and size.

If you're worried that your expected use for the knife is so rough that you risk the blade being snapped, then a folder isn't the tool for the job. The blade is not the most fragile part of a folding knife by a long shot.

If you look at where most folding knives break, the blade is the part that fails.
Unless you have $10 Pakistan folders...those were the days. :D

. . . and if it's too heavy or illegal to carry where you live what's the use other than showing off to friends? The only useful survival tool is the one you have with you, be it a machete or P38 can opener.
