I have a new one. It had been the SOCOM (old version tanto), but I've just received a limited edition Sebenza tanto. It has the usual great Sebenza features (BG-42, monolock, etc...) and is razor sharp. The primary edge has a slight upward angle which presumably improves cutting performance. Very nice.

I own a large standard Sebenza and love it. The Reeve's produce wonderful knives.

However, my favorite folding tanto would be this one:

This one of a kind knife was made by our own Kit Carson from Daryl Meier damascus (1095 & L6). It is the design that the large "flipper" CRKT Model 16's use, and the knife was featured in an article about Kit in Blade Magazine, May, '99.

I'm proud to own it.

The Emerson CQ , including the BM versions, are very hard to beat for function and, the production versions, value. But my heart belongs to Greg Lightfoot's Predator Backup.
It does not cut as well as the Emersons because of the extreme bevel, but it is soooo pretty. And solid as a rock.

I would have to say my favorite is my CS Voyager with a 5" blade. A scary sharp knife right out of the box that I have carried a for a few years. I replaced it this week with the Spyderco Wegner.

At the moment, mine is the BM Mini-Stryker. I like the "drop-point tanto" and the fact the secondary edge is not overly radical.

However, I also *really* like the CRKT M16 versions of the tanto too. They, too, seem to have a graceful drip down to the point, and in addition, also have a bit of belly to the primary edge.

I used to like the Cold Steel Voyager tanto, but (probably due to my present lack of skill) had a hell of a time trying to resharpen the secondary edge. And I seemed to just make it duller than before. Of course, I got the primary edge sharp easily.

I will second the CS tanto XLG. Just got one and scary sharp right out of the box it came in. I sharpened the secondary edge easily with a Lansky Diamond hone. Just clamped it about an inch from the tip, put the guides in at 25 deg and went at it with a coarse diamond, and then med, and then fine. Finished it at 30 lightly with ultra fine stone, just a couple of strokes and lightly.
Scary sharp and pops hair like nothing. No burr on it just a wicked cutting tip. For bucks at the discount knife stores these are hard to beat for the amount of knife you get.
The reach is beyond what I even expected. Keep'em sharp

Hello,
For me its a toss up between my Andre Deviller, which is about the sexiest tanto I have seen. Or my Lightfoot Magnum 460. Both of these knives are I believe a double grind not chisel grind which I like to look at more. Between the two knives the Lightfoot is a more practical every day use shape.

Gotta go with the BENCHMADE STYKER!!!!!

I don't care for tantos too much nowadays, but I am quite fond of the CRKT M16-04. It stays in my glovebox as a backup in case I leave home without the regular carry knives.
Kit Carson has a real winner with this design. It's an inexpensive twin to the original Carson pictured above in Damascus.
Blues, you are one lucky stiff, Buddy!

The knife has lots of great features like that "Carson Flipper" which doubles as a built in finger guard. Brilliant!
The thumb studs become the blade stop in the open position. Very nice touch indeed. The AUS8A blade has a high hollow grind which tapers down to a very thin and wickedly sharp edge.
This is my favorite tanto far and away, and I am a reformed "tantoholic" so I have some tantos laying around. This design RULES IMHO!

Blues nailed it!! But I would also have to say I agree with the Lightfoot as one of the best. I also like the Elishewitz modified tanto designs, very nice lines. I am a tanto freak, so I could go on all day! In fact, Kit is gonna make me one real soon here I hope!! Or I may find one in Vegas.

I woul also hae to saythat amimpressed ih the
SOG VISION
it has a blade tat just looks real coollike the BM Styker

While not being a big fan of the tanto blade configuation, I' ll have to say that it does have its special applications. I recall an emergency situation from some years ago where I had to pry out a door lock cylinder ASAP and I had one of my now discontinued Cold Steel large Shinobu folders. I don' t know about its San Mai IIIs steel cutting abilities but it sure did the job as a makeshift prybar. Its super thick blade and massive locking bar strength held up rather well. It has since been retired.

Since I despise the American "tanto" or chisel point knife in all of its forms, to name a "Favorite Tanto Folder" would be an oxymoron.

Does no one appreciate the beauty and simple elegance of the Spyderco Bob Lum tanto?
