Favorite task for a traditional knife?

fixing stuff. I love the opportunity to use my Vic Cybertool 34 and Vic Explorer...

-Opening a beer! (That's my most favoritest.)
-tightening loose pocket clips with the hex bits
-whittling
-prying things open with flat screwdriver
-taking out splinters
-etc.

that cybertool can do just about anything, seriously.

My Case Canoe is mostly used as a worry stone. I tend to rub my thumb along the bone handle quite often while I'm at work and think about going home, sitting on my porch and cutting up some apples with my wife and newborn boy or whittling nothing in particular.

My Soddie Jr. is my go to knife for harvesting things from the garden. It works perfectly.

Deadheading the roses.

Slicing up a nice piece of steak or chicken.

Whittling.

Opening a box or other package that needs it.

Slicing up the cardboard box after it's not needed anymore.

I'd have to say that my favorite thing is whittling with them, though. I've been doing that since I was about seven.

I think cutting salami for a snack is my fave. If tightening screws with a SAK counts I'll go for that too.

Cant afford the dozen roses weekly , but for years I have been stopping by the local flower place and picking up either one , 2 or 3 roses , on a different day of the week each week. I always let them do the fresh cut at the floral shop , but after your post , not anymore.

after 19 years of marriage... flowers often , keeps things in check ( like knife purchases being overlooked ). :)

My fav tasks for my trads are using , daily , and often , very often.

Great post Blues. Pretty much the reason I've started spending more time in the Traditional forum.

As far as my favorite tasks, I enjoy cutting up food with my slippy. My Case trapper came in handy today when I bought a smoked turkey leg at the local harborfest. I used it to slice more manageable chunks off what has to be the largest drumstick I've ever seen. I also enjoy using it when I'm cooking in the kitchen.

This year I'm hoping to put it to use cleaning any deer the girlfriend and I might shoot.

My Favorite Task would have to be their regular maintenance & upkeep...spending time inspecting, admiring, wiping them down & caring for them...each knife has a "Friend's Story" that I am reminded of when I pick it up...Just makes me smile...
Good Friends do that to you.

My two favorite things to do with 'em are; First, sit down on the front step with my five year old boy and let him open the package when a new one comes in the mail. Second, slowly, carefully, get that PERFECT edge on them.

Question: Does a criminal need to use a traditional knife when holding up the General Store?

Inquiring minds want to know...

:p

carving up a big granny smith apple:thumbup: or whittling a stick while my dogs run the back yard, that being said 9 times outta 10 when they see me with a stick then the whittlin' is over. For them whittlin is a waste of a stick:D
cheers

I think my favorite task for my traditional knives has been facilitating the creation and nurturing of lasting friendships amongst other enthusiasts be they other forum members, collectors, users, makers or purveyors.

Pretty darn amazing for a simple tool.

My favorite task is opening packages sent from the above said people.

Thanks

I think you may have to wait a little longer to do that but they should at least be part way home at this juncture.

You're welcome.

I found a new task I liked. Today during a break in the excitement and general fun of archery practice with my son and daughter, I found it most gratifying trimming down to size and re-fitting the end of the cedar arrows for the new knocks to glue onto. . Stupid,, sure I know,, but I am so easily entertained dontcha know. :p :D
