Alison asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I`m thinking I might want a traditional style folder. What are your favorite models and makers, and if you can, please post pictures? Preferably under $50.

case hunter trapper model. I'm not sure if it's traditional enough but I like it a lot. nice blade, bone saw and gut hook. it's good for edc stuff too or just woods bumming.

For under $50, I think the classic choice would be a Case Medium Stockman.

I've been liking the russlock, peanut and texas jack patterns from case. i have a russlock, try to get a picture up latter, it's a weird looking thing really, but i like it

I like the Case Humpback whittler pattern, and they offer it in smooth G10, which is cool and utilitarian.

I don't want to be accused of deal spotting, but the company that used to be assocaited with Roebuck has them online for under fifty dollars.

best

I'm not a folder collector, but have been leaning towards/wanting a large tooth pic & sodbuster.I've got a bunch on my watch list on ebay.
My favorite pattern is the trapper though, would love a hunter without the gut hook blade.

GEC Bullnose, its built like a tank. feels great in hand and in pocket, its my favorite knife that i own, so useful, i used to not like the sodbuster design, but GEC definitely changed that.

Sodbuster is my favorite pattern. The GEC Bullnose is one of my favorite takes on the pattern. I sent you my black bullnose when I redisgned the Toby's knife. Did you care for it much? The buck 501 is a nice option as is a nice swayback from Case.

After digging through drawers, gun safes, and the basement, I`ve found that I do have some traditionals laying around. Most are Bucks made in China, but I did find 3, new in the box knives. A Imperial Frontier 4624, Imperial Frontier 4432, Imperial Fishing knife, and a Camillus Electricians knife, besides the Boy Scout knives.

Read the question, reached in my pocket, and pulled out a USA Schrade, Uncle Henry, Medium, 3 blade stockman,(it's got a thinner main blade than the usual clip on a Case xx, almost a muskrat), so I guess that is my favorite right now!

Rob Babcock just sent me his dad's old Frontier 4624. I missed picking it up last weekend but I should get it on Wednesday. They were some great Camillus made knives. Thanks again Rob. It will be treasured.

My all time favorites are the Schrade Old Timers in 1095. You can still find nice ones for relatively cheap.

I did find a NIB Old Timer 34OT, in the gun safe, according to the note I had on it, it was a Christmas gift from Alison in 1998.
