Favorite traditionals 2019

I think a 4 inch or larger closed stockman combined with a Buck 110 would have to be at the top of my list.

Precisely which 4 inch or larger closed stockman and which Buck 110 is up for debate.

The Barlow, Canoe, and "Scout"/"Camp" knives are also near the top ... and sometimes join the stockman in my pocket.
I don't think I can pick a "favorite" among those three patterns. Counting how many of each I have is not a help. I have 5 or 6 of each.

Good choices. A multiblade and a lockback are a great combo! It's impossible to just pick one!

Without boring everyone with photos my favorites are:

• Tortoise shell Calf Roper - my favorite GEC pattern. If it came down to having only one, this would be it.

• Stockyard Whittler, Grits, Butter and Molasses. It is too colorfully unique and too useful not to have in the lineup.

• Oil Field Jack. The quintessential big jack, especially with that wrench shield.

Solid choices. I'm gonna have to grab a stockyard whittler while they're still around.

You should. It’s one of those patterns that grows on you the more you use it. I like mine:

I purchased zero knives in 2019, instead reducing my lot down to ones I want to carry and use. Got the 2018 forum knife in Dec-18, and have carried it a lot in 2019. Such a terrific knife, exceeding all expectation.

The 29 stockyard whittler has been testing my resolve. Been reading about them and may or may not cave to get one.

I think these are probably my favorites of the year, I know the Texas Jack has to be my #1 favorite of the year for sure.

There are a few others I really like, but haven't had them long enough .
That GEC H20 I haven't had a that long, but I fell in love with it instantly while others I need more time with to say for sure.

Jack Black's thread on favorite knife of 2019 specifically wanted the knife to be a user. This thread made no such stipulation, so my two honorees are both safe queens, both GECs, and both made several years back, but bought this year.

Like others, can't single out one knife as tastes change from week to week depending on use and circumstances ;)

These two offered me a lot: Waynorth's Lambfoot and CASE's Swayback Gent. Both are excellent designs with no irritating issues in quality (some say issues should be ignored or offer character:rolleyes: I feel otherwise) They not only look right, they feel great in the hand and exude knife charisma:D Balanced.

Last year's Forum Knife did not arrive here until New Year but it's been a consistent & persistent carry, it offers a great deal for very reasonable money. Excellent steel that stays endlessly sharp, no corrosion anxieties at all which is very much appreciated and decent thin Elk slabs. This example has excellent W&T too.

This one most certainly qualifies as it was fixed to my tastes in 2019 and that's why it gets carried. A Lloyd that had not very good bone scales got utterly transformed by the work of @jsdistin who put on some thick Sambar which was exactly what was needed!

Finally, this fantastic horn handle was a present from an esteemed member in France ;) Not only do I like carrying it because of the associations, but it suits me in its own right too:thumbsup: You see, one knife is not possible, you don't get the overall nuances :D

Good idea for a thread, Rob!
I'm going to equate favorite with most carried, since at least part of my reasoning for carrying a knife is that I like it so much.
This Coffin Jack collab came to me as a gift from some really great forum members. I was totally taken by surprise and will cherish carrying and using it. I'm a huge Case knife fan too, so that enters into the equation.

I've had this John Lloyd Shadow Trapper for years now and until the Coffin Jack showed up it was with me 90% of the time. Everything about this knife is "just right" to me. I snagged this one off the exchange and never looked back.

I picked up this little Case Mini Canoe at the Case museum store in Bradford, PA this year. It's a perfect example of the pattern, a handy little EDC and helps feed my Case knife and stag preferences.

And last but not least, my Pinched Peanut. What a super little knife this is! It's like a Jack Russell Terrier, a big knife in a little package. Purchased off the exchange it's in my pocket regularly and called on quite frequently.

I've got A LOT of knives so there are many more right up there in my favorite category. They just don't get carried too often.
I do carry fixed blade knives quite regularly, always with 1 or 2 pocket knives, but that's another story.

This is a nice addition to Jack's thread on your KOTY.
This opens the door to knives that weren't in the running for KOTY honors but still find a lot of pocket time. Knives that may not be your absolute favorites but you find yourself reaching for quite often. Good solid user knives that fill their role but may not be pocket jewelry or cult favorites. I have two knives that I am so pleased with that they can occasionally push out one of my beloved Lambsfoot knives out of my pocket for a while.

The first is a knife that I hunted for a while. They are hard to come by but a forum member who knew I wanted one offered me first dibs when he decided to sell it (I'm grateful). It's one of my favorite handle shapes because it is so nice in the pocket and hand, a perfect size for me too, but I dislike the usual fat spear blade it usually comes with. I think the Wharncliffe blade makes the #55/#56 pattern a much better knife. The GEC #55 Hounds Tooth...

The other knife is one that I own in a few different handle materials. I will be getting more as I find deals or new releases in different materials. It's a knife that I reach for a LOT because it is such a solid "user" and I believe it is the best value in the traditional knife world. GEC quality with an S-Mart price tag. They aren't going to wow anybody with their beauty but they will perform as well or better than any knife in my collection. The GEC Farm and Field #71 Bull Nose...
