Don't forget salami, smoked oysters and a good chunk of sourdough or whole wheat bread and maybe a good shot of spicy mustard. :D Chris

Yep, add to these some mixed nuts and some summer sausage and you have all my different moods about covered :)

HUMAN FLESH!!!!!!!!!!!

i kid....usually jerky or peanut butter and tortillas....sometimes summer sausage and cheese (sometimes with crackers)

Granola bars, crackers, trail mix, beef jerky, cheese and some summer sausage or pepporoni. Depends on the day. Crackers are filling and really are great to snack on.
For liquids, I fill one 64 oz SS KK with Arizona Green Tea and another 64oz SS KK with lemon water and pack teabags in my pack.

My favorite trail snack is Ralph's Beef Jerky. And also, if i am in a sweet mood, nature valley granola bars. Together i could do just fine just about anywhere.

The Walmart Great Value brand puts out some really good trail mix. I go for their "Mountain" trail mix. However, too much salt and chocolate for me. So, I have been putting a few pieces of beef jerky (I know, I know, salty as hell), and a good size bag of almonds in my jacket pockets. However, a 3 mile hike doesn't really require much for an energy boost :o.

Pepperoni & cheese, EatMore candy bars, water-bag full of 1-part gator-aid, 3-parts water.

Fruit scones, flapjacks, shortbread, crackers and something. Lots of loose cereal based stuff with nuts and fruit in. Actually, I'm casually hunting for something new to do with dried banana. I've been getting kilo bags of dried banana and apricot. I'll eat either straight but more usually stick it in a cereal mix. Sometimes I make stuff like big Twix with shortbread and caramel covered in chocolate. That's roughly the direction I'll take the banana in once I've ironed out the biscuit base.

On day hikes I usually don't bring food. Camping I bring my meals and then to snack on I usually go for peanut m&m's. I don't like dried fruit all that much so I avoid trail mixes.

When it comes to tasty meat snacks suitable for munching on the go, I really like landjäger sausages. Kind of a German salami. Comes in conveniently sized links, lasts a long time without needing refrigeration, very tasty, and beats those nasty pepperoni sticks and store-bought jerky hands down.

Here's what I normally had in my day pack for hikes and campouts:

Jerky
Fresh fruit (apples, Oranges)
Nut & Rasin trail mix
Jerkey
Dried fruit (a mix of apple, pear, plum, peach, and apracot)
Yogurt
String Cheese
Granola bars

Since finding out that I'm gluten intolorent I no longer carry granola bars. Instead I get Chocolate nut clusters or Carrob nut clusters from the health food store. Will probably get my mom's Granola recipe and make my own granola bars bassed off it.

on long hikes this is my usual trail menu
McSweenies jerky
Quaker Harvest Crunch Cereal....better than any granola bar. The new style with the crisped puffs is really tasty. 460 cal per cup.
2 hardboiled eggs and 2 roma tomatoes with s&p packets
4 or 5 mini beybel wax covered cheeses (wrap the wax around some tissue for a firestarter/candle, works great)
2 peanut butter and jam sandwiches wrapped in halves. Or ham and cheese with sliced bell peppers
Bag of mini snickers, mars bars and Wurthers candies.

That will fuel me for 6 to 10 hrs of slogging with some candies and jerky left
