What is everyones favorite stockman to edc? What company makes the best user (nothing too fancy, just a good quality stockman that isn't afraid to do some work) stockman? Also, which stockman ?sub-pattern? do you like the best: serpentine, small/medium/large, round or suare bolsters? I havn't tried that many myself, but I really like the good ole' 8OT Old Time Senior Stockman for edc, with a little work on the kicks, they make great carry knives. I ordered a Boker stockman that I am pretty sure will be my new favorite, round bolsters, carbon blades, red rone handles, whats not to love? I also have a couple Camillus and Old Timers on the way that will have a special place in my collection.

Do Sowbellies count? If so I like the Case sowbellies. I have one black bone that I EDC a lot. It's a real work horse. $55
As far as stockmans go. I have yet to buy one that I ended up keeping. Just haven't found one that I like.

They count, I consider them in that sub-pattern department. I need to try one someday, but I havn't wanted one badly enough to pull the trigger. They don't look very comfortable to use.

I found a way to fix that for myself. I ground down that little knub that sticks out just below the blade (sorry I don't my knife parts, but it's usually where they stamp the blade) with a dremel tool. That allowed the sheep foot blade to fold deeper into the handle instead of sticking out so far when in closed position. Just enough to where I can still use the nail notch to open the blade. I hope I'm making sense here.

Perfectly, that is the same thing I do with the blades on my stockman to make it more comfortable. That is the kick that I was talking about in my first post. The place where they stamp the blade is the tang, and the little protrusion is the kick/kicker if I am not mistaken.

I have done some work on the tip of the spay also to give more room for the nailnick on the sheepfoot. That way the sheepfoot can go even deper into the handle. Another good side-effekt is that the spayblade gets a clippoint instead.

80T :thumbup: I bought a SchradeUSA 80T at an antique shop a while back, and it's one of my favorites. I also have a Remington Sowbelly on the way, looking forward to comparing the two in use.

I'll buy anything by Camillus or SchradeUSA these days, if the price is right. I'm putting them away for my son.

thx - cpr

I'll have to go with the 8OT or 34OT Schrade also. The carbon blades on these are great.

By the way. My favorite is Queen #9 stockman. I also have a Schrade duckstamp the same size as the 34OT but with stainless steel and oakwood in the scales and a old 80-ties Buck 307 wrangler. Ive had a Buck 703 colt, a gerber 6610 lst stockman and a Schrade with plastic white scrimchaw scales same size as the 8OT. The queen is the first one I like to carry. I have diffikulties with the pattern and how it is performed but also see the benifits of the three blades. Complex opinion of this pattern to say the least.

Before Schrade went under, these sold for $20 at Wal-Mart, those were the good old days. I just spent $30 for one yesterday, and I am bidding on a couple more for around that much. These knives have risen in value very quickly.

I have to agree. I own, and have owned, a fair number of Stockmans that are and were, more expensive than an 8OT. However, in a "desert island situation" I would go with an OT. They were good, honest knives that were put together well for their price and which featured no-nonsense carbon steel blades. I wish that "the new Schrade" folks would have their "heathen Chinee" makers make these knives, again, to the old specs.

I like several. Case, Camillus (including Cold Steel), Schrade & Queen (including S&M and RAT) in carbon and D2.

I tend to like the larger ones (generally) but there are plenty of times the smaller ones may be more appropriate or convenient to carry.

I primarily own premium stockman patterns but the sowbelly is a classic and easy to carry and deploy.

I've been carrying a full size Stockman lately. A Camillus 67. Not because its my favorite but more or less a trial run. I usually have my 34OT on me but I'm trying to convince myself that its not the end-all-be-all of EDC's.

Its not working very well. The 4"+ Stockman feels like a brick in the pocket in comparison. I'll be going back to the 34OT real soon.

My Absolute Favorite: Case 6347/63047

47 is a premium 3 7/8 rounded bolster frame

6347 is the standard knife, and 63047 has a muskrat clip instead of the standard stockman clip.

I've been carrying a 63047 lately.

Please post pictures if you can. I would, but I don't have a camera yet.

I have a good many Case 47s, but these 4 are my most common users. I've been carrying the 63047 for a while now.

Zip,

Curious as to why you prefer the 047 of late? Just a change of pace or any functional difference?

I've always preferred the more standard clip of the 47 personally vs the longer clip but it's mostly just aesthetic preference.
