Favorite user stockman?

Zip,

Curious as to why you prefer the 047 of late? Just a change of pace or any functional difference?

I've always preferred the more standard clip of the 47 personally vs the longer clip but it's mostly just aesthetic preference.

I don't think it's any longer than the standard clip, although it is slimmer.

I guess just for a change of pace. I like them both.. I find the standard clip more practical for everyday uses other than skinning critters, but I like the look of the 047 closed - with that notch in the handle. And with that notch to feel, I can get the blade I want without having to look and see which way I have the knife in my hand.

As a user I would prefer a large stockman, a old Schrade or my Boker would be fine with me.
But for daily carry, a medium stockman suits me better.

Before Schrade went under, these sold for $20 at Wal-Mart, those were the good old days. I just spent $30 for one yesterday, and I am bidding on a couple more for around that much. These knives have risen in value very quickly.

When I got out of High school in the late 70's it was the price of the Old Timers that got me to buy them. Then I discovered how nice of a knife they really were. I never really liked the Uncle Henry's then but now I could kick myself for not loading up on them. I think I like them better than the OT's.:o

Isn't that always the situation? After SchradeUSA closed up, I haunted the local hardware stores & grabbed as many as I could before they shot up in price. I've got quite a few, but to me, with SchradeUSA, "enough is never enough!" I'll keep buyin' them 'til I'm dead, I guess.

After finding out about SchradeUSA, I've made it a point to buy a good American made knife, usually a Stockman pattern (for deeply sentimental reasons; I inherited a Stockman that was carried by my grandfather for years), at least three-four times a year; however I'm working on buying at least one example of each old traditional pattern. I'll be busy for awhile.

thx - cpr

ps - my grandfather is the only person I've ever heard who actually used the Stockman spay blade for what it was designed for. I wish I could have heard those stories from him . . .

USA made scrade 340T

LOVE IT! I took it hiking with me last week and made a camp fork.

my favorite was a case large stockman, bone scales with cv blades. great knife and yep, you guessed it i traded it off. I truly am the king of idiots.

Favorite user stockman. Not a real hard choice. If looks came into it my pick would be the old Bertram made Hen and Rooster. But when I think back on the construction jobs we did in the army engineers, and the hard almost abusive use a pocket knife took, I'll go with the old 300 series Buck's like the 301 and 303 models. Very tough knives.

Looking at my old Buck 307 stockman itt seams that it has a rather thick stainless pivot pin. Is that the case with the smaller ones to. The 307 is far to big to carry edc and I got it as a teenager so my sharpening skills from the time show as scratces in the blade. Nice to own though.
The queen # 9 is rounded in the bolsters and a good user size on the large side of edc. Been working on kicks and blades to make it suit me. First stockman that realy fits my bill. Dont realy like the D2 but I can live with it. But man, that knife came with odd edge. Lots of work there. I would say that it came to me as a halffabrificat that I had to put time in to make a good user knife.
