I use to think that Victorinox were sort of gimmicky but now that I am getting more into knives/pocket tools I am seeing how there can be so many uses for just a little SAK or even some of the bigger ones with more obscure tools. I am wondering if anyone around here uses any of the more advanced models and what specific ones they like along what are their favorite tools are and what they use them for. Right now I am looking into getting an Explorer + for the magnifying glass, Awl, pen, and straight pin. Thanks!

I personally like the Alox Cadet. I know it's simple, but it carries well, looks great, and feels great in hand. I just used the screw driver on mine tonight on unjam my car window molding of ice. So that's my favorite tool. :D

I own a lot of Victorinox knives but the one I find myself carrying the most is the Vic Fieldmaster. It has all the tools I want Except the pliers. I just don't like a lot of weight on my belt so the fieldmaster gets a nod for the least weight and most tools. I also carry a Spyderco Native in my pocket. By the time I put my Cell phone on my belt and Fieldmaster on my belt, its enough weight, plus don't forget the keys on my belt when I am out of my truck. I hate a lot of weight and with those three, I am pushing the limit. I wish I could find a better option but that's the best I have found that works.

I never leave home without my Huntsman. I use the large blade for food and the smaller pen blade for general utility cutting. The bottle opener gets used almost every evening on a few bottles of home brew. I even use the saw ocasionaly when walking in the woods and cut a branch for whittling. The scissors come in very handy for snipping tags, loose threads on shirts, etc... I was at a party one evening and someone brought a bottle of wine. The home owner didn't drink wine and didn't have an opener and the one who brought the wine didn't have one neither. Well my Huntsman was to the rescue with it's corkscrew. Even the awl has seen use. So I would have to say the entire knife is my favorite tool.

I've been using a Pioneer as my every day, general use knife for a while now and it's been absolutely great. It's easily my favourite victorinox.

it's nice to have a pair of scissors, a metal file and even a wood chisel.
but once you're done packing the 4 or 5-layer saks in a couple of years time,
try returning to the fashionably minimalist 2-layered saks;
and perhaps have 'em pair up with the likes of a crkt's "eat'ntool" or gerber's "shard".

I love the explorer! and I guess my 3 favorite tools would be the small blade, the scissors, and the bottle opener. Not necessarily in that order. That bottle opener has made me the life of all parties ever.

Wow...gimmiky is not a word I would have associated with Victorinox...although they do have a few novelty products that are done, in Swiss tradition, to showcase what they can do. You've all seen the folding knife with a hundred blades or whatever.

I like the Tinker and the Super Tinker (EDC) but I have 5 or 6.

On a related note, the Victorinox Kitchen knives, Forschner are, in my opinion after a lot of research, probably the best for the money (which is at the lower end of the price scale...better knives than the price really).

The Victorinox Swisstool Multitool is one of the stoutest multitools on the Market.

I am carrying an Alox Cadet right now as my secondary knive to my Kershaw OD-1. It is the knife I use around the sheeple in my office environment at work and the one I lend out. It is inexpensive, easy to replace if they lose it and doesn't cause non-knife types anxiety when they see it. I mean, who's scared of a little green knife.

I also carry the Alox Solo instead of the Cadet too. These are very slim 1-2 layer SAK's that are perfect for a secondary knife for work.

On the weekends, vacation or other non-work hours, I sometimes carry a Alox Farmer or Alox Electrician Plus as a secondary with my ZT0300, Spyderco Endura 4 G-10 or Benchmade 710-D2. I have other knives and combos but these are the most common ones.

Oh, and I also have a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit multi-tool strapped to my backpack.

As far as fav. tool... I dunno, I use and like them all really.

For plastic handled models, I really like the Compact: Minimalistic with only 2 layers, yet it manages to pack in most of my most-used tools with a minimum of stuff I never use.

When it comes to alox, I like the Electrician and, in an outdoors setting, the Electrician Plus, which adds a saw.

Then there's the Swisstool Spirit, which is my favorite pliers-based multitool by far.

Most used tools in general: Bottle opener, scissors, saw.

the pliers found on some models are good as gold. short of a multitool its hard to find ones that fit in your pocket. i carry the mechanic everyday and you don't really realize how hand they are untill you have them

My favorite is the Solo, which only has a blade.

Counting knives that have other tools on them, the Soldier has a very nice awl. Sometimes it seems like I use that awl more often than the pliers on my Leatherman.
