I use to think that Victorinox were sort of gimmicky
LOL, I can't remember ever thinking that (but I've loved all kinds of gadgets for as long as I can remember), but at least your ignorance is now gone and you have seen the light. Victorinox put out some really well made, good quality useful tools!
I'm a computer tech and the greatest advancement in my field by a long shot is the release of the Victorinox Cybertool, I've been carrying mine every day for about a decade. I've lost count of how many times I've used it and it is still in good condition - the pen still writes and I have lost none of the removable items. I've even used the stainless steel pin on several occasions. Now days the Cybertool has branched out and is called the Cybertool 34 with 2 siblings to give you more tools or less tools, but the 34 is still the best model.
I was looking at some more SAKs on Amazon when they started their $10 instant rebate for spending over $50 on Victorinox, so I bought a Ranger for $30 & a Trekker for $30 = $60 - $10 = $50. Then I put in another order and got a Farmer & Cadet (alox SAKs) for $50.xx - $10 = $40.xx (I pretty good deal I thought). This morning my stuff arrived - Woohoo, Christmas a week & a half early!
My first impressions on my new SAKs:
The Ranger is great! So many useful tools for bushcraft and other stuff - the file/metal saw is really nice, it is a proper file not just a small fingernail file. The saw looks pretty useful. I'll have to find something to try the chisel on.
The Trekker is even better than I thought it would be! The locking blade is a pretty good size and on the other end the cap lifter/screwdriver/pry tool also locks - I think that will be pretty good for some tasks. With a nice saw it is a good tool for bushcraft.
The Farmer is great, some good tools and it is noticeably slimmer than the plastic handled equivalents.
The Cadet has less tools, but it is really slim & light - it would disappear nicely into a pocket so you could forget it until you needed it. You still get a nice sharp blade, file, cap lifter/screwdriver/pry tool & can opener/screwdriver. Pretty useful for something so slim & light.
During the working day my Cybertool will still be my #1 tool for a long time yet. It is too useful to swap out for anything else.
