Favorite W&SS Movie??

Lotsa great replies!! I'm gonna print this thread out and look for some of these at the local library. I agree that "The Hunted" is pretty good.... knife related and so on.

The Amazon special episode of Top Gear - Nothing quite like Jeremy Clarkson wielding a chainsaw and yelling "I am the god of hellfire!"

A great "outdoorsy" film, not necessarily W&SS: A River Runs through it

The White Dawn Is my favorite.

"Stalingrad" had to be survival under the most grueling circumstances. Not exactly wilderness, but survival nonetheless.

I have to go with Deliverance as my no. 1, closely followed by Dawn of the Dead.

Jeremiah Johnson, The Hunted, First Blood, and The Road (I dont know about the movie but the book was excellent). I really like Gary Paulsen, in fact it was his book Hatchet that really kicked off my love for bushcraft and camping and learning about the woods when I was in elementary school

Not a favorite, but this thread reminded me of "Sands of the Kalahari". The way the Stuart Whitman character ended up lording it over the other survivors and finally fighting it out with a baboon troupe was a little disturbing !

"Flight of the Phoenix". Jimmy Stewart, Ernie Borgnine, Hardy Kruger, Richard Attenborough.

"The Naked Prey" - Wonderfull film.

In no particular order, here's a few I like

Darsu Uzala

That is an amazing movie on so many levels.
Though i believe it's spelt Dersu Uzala. :p

For those who don't know it's a film by the great Akira Kurosowa.
It is about the adventures of a Russian surveyor/explorer in the wilds of Siberia, and the local hunter, and title character, who serves as guide for the team.

One of the major themes of the movie is that at first the Russians don't take him seriously. But over time they develop deep respect for his skills and knowledge.

Two really old ones. You very seldom see either of these on TV. Who can resist John Wayne and Sophia Loren! In the 2nd you'll find a young Frankie Avalon doing some fairly decent acting. Though dated a lot of the scenerio is spot on accurate.

Legend of the Lost
John Wayne stars in this epic Western famed for its stunning cinematography. Wayne is Joe January, a hard-drinking, hard-living guide hired to find his employer's (Rossano Brazzi) father and a legendary, long-lost treasure. The two men set out into the isolated wasteland of the North African desert accompanied by Dita (Sophia Loren), a sultry prostitute who drives the men crazy and comes between them even as they battle for survival.

Panic in Year Zero
A tight-knit Los Angeles family leave on a fishing vacation just before the city is hit by a hydrogen bomb. What they have to do to survive.

Dersu Uzala, directed by Akira Kurisawa. His best film, in my opinion.

I loved Dersu Uzala, great film. As far as Akira Kurisawa goes though, 7 Samurai and Yojimbo are still my top 2 favorite movies in any category.
