Favorite Westerns

I agree with all of the traditional, classic Westerns mentioned, but I also like several Westerns that take place in the mid 20th century.

Lonely Are The Brave
Hud
All The Pretty Horses

In no particular order

Bat Masterson
Maverick
The Rifleman
Longmire

Jeremiah Johnson
Quick and the Dead
Once Upon a time in the West
My name is Trinity (the sequels too)

Geez, tough question.

All the spaghetti westerns, Clint Eastwood has been a favorite since I was a kid.

I always watched them with my dad and Gunsmoke. Just recently been watching Gunsmoke on MeTV. Good show!

Also was just turned onto The Rifleman, never seen it before and its pretty good.

Bonanza is good when they have a good story like a bank robbery or murder, but sometimes its corny and they try to make it a comedy.

No bad westerns. Well, only one or two that had non-traditional non-actors.

Shalako was interesting …Sean Connery, Honor Blackman, Brigitte Bardot …in a western. Talk about going against type. I was ready for Q to show up with his latest gadget.

Josey Wales. My fave. Nuff said.

Elder was great, but Dean cracks me up anyway, and Hopper was a fun choice too. What’s not to love?

What about the original Star Wars?

Star Wars was actually heavily inspired by an old samurai movie called "the Hidden Fortress". If you watch that movie you will see the similarities, both in story, and characters, including the two bickering characters that R2-D2 and C3-PO were based on.

But on the subject of movies based on western themes, I saw an interview with John Carpenter where he said that "Escape From New York" was basically a western, with Snake Plissken as an outlaw gunfighter. :)

And speaking of Kurt Russell, I'm one of the few people who liked Kevin Costner's "Wyatt Earp" better than "Tombstone". Not really a fan of "Tombstone".

Yeah, I said it 😁 .

Monte Walsh. The older I get the more it appeals.

The Long Riders
4 sets of brothers playing 4 sets of brothers.
And a Bowie duel.
Music by Ry Cooder
“First getting shot. Now getting married…. Bad habits. Bad habits. “

And of course…
“I’m your huckleberry “
“Whupped ‘em again eh Josey?”
“Shane! Come back Shane!”
“That’s bold talk for a one eyed fat man!”

Oh, Paladin rules :)
