Was just considering the gravitator again and was curious what other beautiful wharnies I might be missing out on.

I'd like to buy one of these in flatground 154CM with maple burl or carbon fiber scales:

I think this is a nice looking folder:

 OMG! I just realised I dont have a warnie!

Not even one! I have to go shopping!

;)

Kershaw Leek and BM 921 - both of which are modified wharnies.

Both Spyderco and Kershaw have Centofante-design wharncliffs.

Spyderco Ronin for a small fixed blade (also a Snody-design).

I have a small collection of wharnies; the Leek in 440A, Ronin, BM921, and BM425 - and each has different qualities.

  • Leek is easiest to sharpen and assisted, but loses it's edge quicker than the others. My buddy owns a Leek, it's his only blade, and he beats the heck out of it (it was my groomsman's gift to him). The tip was blunter than anything last time he came over, I got it screaming sharp with 10 minutes on the Sharpmaker.
  • Ronin (VG-10) has a thin profile blade which I wouldn't want to use for anything other than slicing - and they no longer make it for Neck carry. Sheath is small enough to carry the entire blade in pocket though.
  • BM921 has the better edge-holding steel with the S30V and an Axis lock, and has an anodized aluminum frame (I keep my keys in a separate pocket from my knife pocket, no scratches yet!) and has a thin frame.
  • The BM 425 is a brute compared to the rest, has great edge holding once I got an edge to my liking. The Leek and 921 tend to be my gentleman's blades, and the Ronin and Grav are my EDC.

All 4 of these blades get plenty of carry time from me though - just a quick and dirty comparison.

Kershaw Centofante-Onion, it's the coolest little assisted opening wharnie.

Case Seahorse whittler. Great slipjoint, too bad they don't make it in CV. Mine sees a lot of use.

Gene Ingram makes a beautiful wharncliffe fixed blade.

Just got my Bark River black micarta TUSK yesterday. I honestly believe it may be the perfect knife. It's razor sharp, and fits my hand like a glove. I'm ordering another in bone ASAP. Bill

now THOSE are hot knives! woof!
btw, on the Gene Ingram knife , what handle material is that?

I like this little William Henry. Sorry about the pic.

I like the Yohimbo, Ronin, RDT's stuff, William Henry's stuff, the Leek definitely. The Gravitator's pretty cool.
