Are the 2 knives pictured above wharnies?....the blades aint straight!
Wharncliffes don't need a perfectly straight cutting edge. I do not know all of the different names for all of the different types of Wharncliffes, but there are many variations. The Dozier is definitly a Wharncliffe. The Klotzli might be blurring the line, but it looks like a Wharnie to me.

I used to think the Gravitator looked awful. At least in pictures. When I handled one at a knifeshop, I suddenly thought it looked really cool.

Here's a Tactical Wharny from the Graham Brothers.

That's a sweet graham bros knife.

As per wharnie identiifcation, a wharnie with a slightly not straight blade near the end is called (uncreatively) a modified wharnie. But they count here too....well, in my book.

I have seen some traditional, true wharncliffe's with a slightly curved edge, and Benchmade calls the perfectly straight edge Gravitator a "modfied wharncliff" in their print catelog.

When I said there are many types of Wharncliffes, I meant from different eras and countries. Some are perfectly straight, some are not (and they are not modified wharnies).

In general, though, I agree with you that "modified warncliffe" means the edge has a slight belly, but that is not always the case. There is no rulebook on the matter, so each knifemaker sort of calls it what they want to. It would be hard to call them right or wrong given the variety of wharncliffe styles over the years and in different regions.

I perceived the modified wharncliffes as not rounded on the spine. I guess it could have to do with the edge but more often than not they should be straight I would think.

No apology needed, as you were not wrong. I believe Kershaw (for example) calls the Leek a modified wharncliffe because it has a little belly. Or at least, it is often called such even if Kershaw doesn't call it that officially.

My only Wharnie.
This is a wonderful little knife.
It has worked its way back into the rotation because it is so handy and the blade shape works well for the kind of cutting I do.
I think I need another...maybe a Spyderco...
That Tichbourne is Suh-Weet!

I doubt it.
The line was called Mirage.
Bought it in '99 or '00 for less than twnety bucks at 1sks.

Its never seen a stone, just polished on the cardboard that I cut, leather strop and at most 1500-2000 grit sandpaper.
