The one true gadget that I've found to be entertaining and useful, the GPS. I don't use it for navigating, but I collect waypoints at interesting locations and random intervals so I can see where I've been after I get back home. :)

Same here, I enjow loading the tracks into Google Earth and making myself maps with fishing holes I've found, trails that are not marked, temporary hunting stands, etc. Here's an example of a spot we found loaded with scallops. With few landmarks and changing tides, it would be difficult to find the spot the next day. With the GPS, we returned to within feet of it. After loading the tracks into Google Earth, I could see it in relation to sandbars and channels.

It also records the time, pressure, altitude, speed, etc. at different points. I once was viewing the tracks from a camping trip, using Google Earth, and noticed a pond I didn't know about. I loaded the coordinants into the GPS and later hiked in to the pond. When I got there, it was evident few others know about it, as there were no trails. It's now a secret fishing spot of mine. My most used "gadgets" would be my Apex and Leatherman.

all right, my rant aside :)

these work great when you can barely move your fingers due to cold, and you need to string up a line for your tarp:
