Favorite woods knife?

Buck 110 and Victorinox Swisschamp. When I was young and coming of age the 110 was the knife to have. Seemed like everyone had one on their belt. Began using one as a hunting knife and it served the purpose well enough that I never felt the need to change. I’ve used it to gut fish and game, as a camp food prep knife, and even to carve pumpkins with my kids through the years. Later as I purchased my first Vic SAK it quickly became apparent how useful it was in the woods, at work, and at home.

I could try to pick just one, but I'll certainly fail. Some are more robust, some more slicey and pointy. I just take whichever one I feel like at the time. It's important to note that I'm often hunting while out in the brush, so my choice of cutlery often reflects that.

It's either a TOPS Tracker 3 or a Fällkniven A1, paired with a Sage 5 LW or a Manix 2 XL and mostly I'm gonna have a Leatherman Wave, SAK (I forget the name, has scissors and a magnifying glass) and most of the time maybe a Mora Companion Spark or a Reini Rossmann Irbis (semi custom from an Austrian survival dude).

If I'd have to be weight conscious it'd probably be down to ... well, still two fixed blades, a folder and the SAK and the Wave ^^

What is your favorite knife to take out into the woods with you and why?
I’ve posted elsewhere about this knife so forgive me if you’ve already seen it, but since you asked - it’s my new Busse Dirt Dart Steel Heart.

I tend to do lots of hiking in the Pacific Northwest in rugged terrain with many cliffs and limited phone or radio reception.

I’m usually hiking with minimal survival gear, mostly because I’m generally carrying a bunch of LEO gear and/or so I can travel lighter and go further. Because I don’t have much gear, I like to have a larger knife capable of chopping green and dead wood (along with a folder) so I can quickly make fire and shelter in a situation where I get lost or tumble down a cliff.

If I’m backpacking I’ll carry a couple of smaller fixed blades and a folder since I’m better prepared against the elements.

I like this blade because it’s relatively compact but still has enough heft to chop well at 15oz. Due to the placement of holes in the handle it’s also particularly good at chopping when used with a lanyard tied like so:

In the summer all I need is either a small and lightweight fixed blade (3.5" and less than 4 ounces, like my Williams SZM003) or a biggish Cold Steel coupled with a Victorinox Farmer.

In the colder months I'll have a Silky Pocketboy 170 and a slightly stouter fixed blade - 4-4.5" and north of 7 ounces, something like an Esee 4.
On occasions I'll whip out the Tops Tracker, go out with just that and make it work. Maybe less efficient but (on most days) more fun.

Ok, so if you all had two options for a bushcraft/survival knife, would you rather get the Work Tuff Mt. Lion, or the LT Wright Illuminous 5?

Those are quite different knives.

LT is more “bushcrafty” with a very thin scandi edge and essentially no guard, while the WT is what I’d consider a survival knife.

Longer blade and full lower guard on the WT makes it more capable in a defensive role - something I value in a field or survival knife.

The LT is only 10oz, vs 17oz for the WT, so the heavier and longer WT will chop much more effectively and efficiently (and the handle shape is more conducive to chopping as well), but it won’t carve wood as well or be as easy to carry around.

Personally I’d go with the WT. I don’t actually even own a “real” bushcraft knife at the moment. I do the little stuff in the woods with my pocket knife.
