Favorite XL Folder 5”+ blade

I recently started carrying a Large Espada from cold steel, then quickly purchased many of the voyager models and their 6” hold out. I hate pocket clips. They ruin clothing and upholstery, snag on things, scratch finishes and generally look stupid. I find these xl folders sit nice and straight in the pocket and are easy to grasp without the use of the pocket clip. I find them more comfortable to carry than smaller knives that are loose in the pocket. What are your favorite 5”+ folders? image.jpg

This is what I have at my desk at the moment, and I am hoping to add a Talwar XL soon. The 4" is very practical...but I wanna 5.5" fully serrated one :)

Honestly, the most surprisingly handy monster folder I have come across is the 5 Max. I could literally not pack a fixed blade and get along doing 90% of the knife duties a blade that size can handle.

The Mayhem has grown on me a lot. I have felt it could have used more of a useful choil or to bring that edge back closer to the handle instead of that weird no man's land, but if you hold it in more of a sabre grip, it's pretty balanced in the hand. Still not sure what it's "for". It's a chunky and wide knife in the pocket. Really large and kinda heavy, but the tip and edge are so thin I wouldn't call it an outdoors knife. Certainly not an EDC user, so I am going to go with purpose driven SD, and I would NOT want to be on the bad end of one.

purpose driven SD
Yup !

I tried to use as a light/medium machete . Kinda worked but AUS10 edge took some damage .

Atlas is not equal to the mighty Tri-ad , so I did not push my luck .

It's designed for SD , and otherwise I think some light utility might be OK .

I think it's a fun knife . Atlas is very fidget worthy .

The Cold Steel Ti-lite 6. Both stock (not pictured), and in various custom forms.

Not my fav , just because of the lock type . As they come stock .

One of your auto conversions ...oh yes , yes !:thumbsup::thumbsup: Would love to play with one of those .

This is how I have to close my LCT Ti-Lite VI ::rolleyes:

And closing manually ruins my nails ! ;)

If the lock is sticking so bad that you need to do that to unlock it, from my experience it's because the lock was bent too far over. The severe bend creating more force and causing the lock to jamb against the blade.

The remedy I use is to take the knife apart, secure the locking liner in a vise, and bend the lock the other way with my fingers. I try to get it so the edge of the lock is 1/4" above the rest of the liner (pic below). This always worked for me.

Thanks . Might try that this winter .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not really a bad knife otherwise . Very impressive , to "whip it out " with an inertial opening . :p

Wouldn't call it a favourite but if you want to go all out with a big folder a kukri is always a good place to start.

Do you own and have used one of these things ?

Looks like a button lock , liner lock . Not my fav for a huge heavy hard use folding machete .

Looks really thick bladed .

~$500 USD ? 😆 Not from me !

I couldn't watch this much silliness, but maybe there is something of value if you can stomach it ? 😏
