I am a little frightened.I think in addition to HIKV that I have developed a case of uncurable KAD which is a side affect of HIKV.KAD stands for Khukuri Addictive Disorder. It is much worse than the HIKV.

It means that I have to have a "favorite" in every category, style and size and how can that happen?
This is a unique disorder. It niqued up on me.

(insert "groan" here)

I have a new "favorite."
It is the little "Balance" Khukuri, but alas my 18" AK is also still my favorite and I can feel the Gelbu Special calling to me to be a favorite also.

I have discovered that KAD strikes upon aquireing the possesion of so many Khukuris. For me it was the number "7" and I have some more on the way. What am I to do?

I have seen where mohd has talked about the "Balance" Khukuri and I have often wondered about something like this.
Mohd this Khukuri sets on it's edge and stays there very firmly, balanced perfectly both from side to side and end to end.It is a marvel to behold!!
I think you have mentioned that you had bought 1 or 2 like this?
If so what are the sizes of them if you don't mind saying?

I am going to have to stop balancing this beautiful "littl" Khukuri on my thumbnail without anything under the edge.It is starting to cut a groove in my nail from the pressure alone.
Did I mention that my Good Nicholsen File Won't Cut the hardest part of this one?
The edge also doesn't chip or roll.I have to say this is another one with the perfect hardness.

Pala,Uncle Bill, just how big can one of these "Balance" Khukuris be?

Yvsaji, Namaste:

You have the first balance khukuri to come to the US. Poor Modh has none but he wants a couple very badly.

We are currently making six more about the size of yours and are also trying our luck at an 18 inch model. I have pretty good hopes for these.

I would love to have the 18".I can't begin to imagine the beauty it will have.Much of the beauty is the balance itself. The Kami that made mine is very talented indeed.
It is the best village model I have to date.

I sincerly hope mohd gets to buy one of these.I know he will be as fascinated as me with it.

Thank you again Pala and Uncle for providing such wonderful, useful and Pretty knives.

Yvsa, Pala said he was too busy to "look at the screen" right now but said dheri dhanyabad (many or much thanks).

He has just made a tool out of a 2x4 with some smaller lengths of wood nailed to it for forming our shipping boxes. Yangdu made them single using a table edge for her press brake to fold them. I can see the shop 2 ingenuity at work here! I get a great kick out of it. Pala will not let me do anything but "watch the screen."

Namaskar Pala and Uncle Bill,

Log another 18" and one small Balance Khukuri for me please. Any idea when these will be available?

Harry

Yvsa, you are only at stage 2.

Uncle Bill can tell you about triple ( or greater ) redundancy. It can come about from flying airplanes ( If you lose your elevator control cables (1) you want to be able to adjust trim settings (2) or flaps (3) or power (4) to maintain your attitude, and if that fails a parachute (5) or an emergency chute (6), or it can come from shooting guns in competition ( one pistol to shoot, one identical pistol for a spare, and a third in the shop ). In khukuris, it means one in the bedroom, one in the car trunk, and one behind the truck seat. Of ANY use appropriate favorite khuk. Though you can sometimes "make do" with three very similar khuks for brief periods ( example 2 20 oz 15" BAS's and a 17" 20 oz Chainpuri ). You'll know what I mean by the time you've added your next dozen. (smirk)

Palaji.
Please log my name for 1 unit of this HI Version Little Baraba Khukuri and another 1 unit for the 18" Version. I believe anybody will definitely fall in love with this model especially when he personally hold & work with it - furthermore if it is a fit & finish HI Version - it really will be a great knife!

Yvsa.
Some time about 3 months ago, I went to a small antiquity shop at Kuala Lumpur - I saw 2 little Khukuris about 14" OA length - the owner told me that those Khukuris are genuinely Nepal made - for the bargaining purpose I told him that they are not very good compared to my Indian made Khukuri - he suddenly took out the Khukuri from the display glass cupboard - unsheated the blade & balanced it on his thumbnail - each of those Khukuris sets on it's edge and stays there very firmly, balanced perfectly both from side to side and end to end! He told me that in experts hand those Khukuri won't miss targets! Few minutes after that those 2 Khukuris become mine. They fascinated me and everybody!

The only setback is that the fit & finish of those 2 Khukuris are down below the par of any HI Version - the engraving done very rough! their blades were rusty - pitching rust! Few fold lines here & there on the blades! Anyhow they are very light 14" OA length, 1/4" thick at spine, 4" bone handle, loose butcap, half way rat tail tang and curvy shaped blade.

Yvsa.
Actually I am waiting for this happening -moment whereby Pakcik Bill posted the pix of this Baraba Khukuri! You are very lucky person to grab it 1st! Of course I know (100%) from the very beginning that you are going to love it!

Palaji is correct!
You have the first balance khukuri to come to the US. Poor Mohd has none (of HI Version) but he wants a couple very badly.

Alhamdu-li-(A)llaah! A million thanks to you Yvsa for the posting of this thread! Palaji has open the door - of course! - I will go in and join you balancing the HI Version Baraba Khukuri!

Thanks Russ, redundancy I know about. Why do we have more khuks. than we need?Heck;more than we could possibly need.

Pakcik Bill.
Is The Kumar Bishwakarma Special -- a real fighter the one you means by ...
...an update on shop 2 later and you'll see why...

Insyaa-Allaah! I'll wait for the Little Baraba + 18" Baraba. Thanks to log my name for those 2 Barabas!

Only stage 2 Rusty?

If any of you haven't visited the H.I. website recently,ya might wanna go look.It is new and improved and Uncle hasn't said anything.

I think I know why he wanted the Hanuman blades on the WW II handles now.
I think that is a good idea Uncle.
Later on when some of these get caught up I would really like to have one of those!!! I didn't really know just what those blades looked like until the new pics were put up.

The shop is hopping right now. 13 folks working 10 hours everyday, Ganga Ram and his helper also banging steel and a couple of other village kamis in there making some new and probably very magical khukuris. They are keeping up and slowly helping catch up on some special orders. And, Gelbu said they are laughing and joking all the time -- very happy. Neat how a little job security changes a fellow's outlook on life.
