what's your favorite slipjoint under, say, $30? and whats your favorite slipjoint that you consider cheap? (there is no limit for this last one)

I'm just curious to know :D thanks

Rough Rider.

They can be had for 10 buck or under and rival many knives in the 30 dollar range. Nice little knife and a huge selection of styles.

I spend a lot of time rooting around on that popular auction site. For the money, you can't hardly beat a second-hand U.S.-made 34OT or 33OT Old Timer, or a Buck 303 or the venerable Case soddie jr. I've purchased at least one of each of those on the 'bay for less than $20 per.

I was suprised by my russel grand daddy barlow. Made in germany, bone handles and high carbon blade. I dont care for the satin finish however. You can get em with or without easy open scales for under 30$.

I'd say my current favorite is a Boker barlow with wood handles. I also have a large Boker sodbuster that is nice for using with food prep. Both of these were under $30.

My best cheap slipjoint is my amber bone Case Texas jack. I paid less than $25 for it. Of course I have two sodbusters, a Case and a Queen, and both of those are nice knives as well. Then on the lower end I have a RR copperhead that is good out of proportion to its cost and I have a RR medium stockman that's a nice knife. I've not carried it yet though as I can't seem to kick that Case mini copperhead out of my pocket long enough to get to carrying it.

I love my Klass soddie. Low cost, but not cheap, good service for 10 bucks. Take a little 0000 steel wool and a rag with some linseed oil, and in a little while you have a very nice looking knife.

Next up may be my Victorinox classic. I can't think of another 9 dollar keyring knife that I've got so much use out of. Goes almost anywhere, and can be replaced at he next 'mart I pass.

Right up there in value for the buck is Buck. The 300 series pocket knives are one fo the best values around. Not real expencive, but built like a Sherman tank.

Carl.

My favorite cheaper knife is a knife that was my Grandfather's
it's a Old Imperial Barlow! It has White plastic scales, with fake brown
saw marks on it! the Carbon Blades on it are full with a nice rich,
dark patina on them! and it's razor sharp! I carry/use it on days
like this when I think about my Grandpaw allot! He passed over
a year ago! He was my Best Friend! This knife was $10 or $15
but it's better than anything I've got! Thanks POP!

Hi,

Favourite inexpensive slippie? Got to be my 34OT for long term use and carry. And for going to town carry, a Camillus #22 peanut with yellow handles, ( I blame Carl for this :D).

My favourite import is a little RR Half-Whittler with red jigged bone. I didn't realize this until a month or so ago. But that knife has spent a lot of time in my pocket. It will be interesting to see if my new-to-me Schrade 272 can displace it.

I have a lot of favorites in this price range, my Victorinox Tinker is always with me and only costs around $20, so it is my favorite. I also really like my Boker Barlow with green bone, Old Timer Pal and 8OT, and a CV Trapper in yellow delrin.

My favorite cheap slip-joint, is my Opinel No.7, best money ever spent.

My favorite cheap one would be a Schrade 34OT.
A good friend managed a Pawn Shop, so I would get to see stuff before it went out for sale. One day he had a 34OT laying on his desk, I asked if it was going out for sale, he said yes.

He was going to put 20 dollars on it, but told me if I wanted it, I could have it for 5 bucks. It had seen a little use, but not much, and had never seen a stone, so I grabbed it.
It was the first knife I was able to put a really good edge on freehand, and still sees pocket time once in awhile

Probably the Kneissler Farmer - its a single blade in carbon steel, usually horn scales. Handmade by Herr Kneissler as users in Germany - cost about 25-30 euros

ALso check out the amazing EKA Swedes - especially the 8 and 10 - freakish value for a well made knife

The carbon steel Jokers are pretty good too

All cheap - and dont forget the single blade Victorinox alox solo, and their larger red nylon Solo

It would have to be the V-nox Cadet. With the keyring filed off you hardly notice it in your pocket , quite a few handy tools on it and it'll last you a very long time!

Next up are the Case sodbuster and the Queen country cousin for me.

All can be found for under $30.

Actually a lot of my traditional/slippies have been under $30.

Orange handled schrade stockman - $25
Case equal end Pen - $27
Case Soddies - $20 and $14
Case Medium Stockman in Jade Bone - $25
Picked up a Case large Stockman the other day for $25
SAK Farmer in blue - $20

Just to name a few. And yes they are all my favorites. Along with all the others.

My best inexpensive slippie may be my best production overall and its a Case 3318 CV Medium Stockman. I snagged it off the forums used for so cheap I couldn't turn it down and overall its about as flawless as you could possibly hope to get in any slippie let alone one of this price point. Without doubt its the most flawless production slip joint I've purchased in my life. Flush open and closed on all three blades, flawless fit and finish, perfectly centered main blade and the other two don't rub! All with great snap and really the only ding one could give it is the yellow handles but honestly those don't bother me much at all for a user. Best thing about this model is that its very easy to carry without notice that you have it on you. Its probably one of the best deals I've made on the forums and in a sub 20 dollar folder for what I have in it. My GEC $80 slippie and my MSA Co. 01 Marbles knives are not actually quite as flawless as this one so I'd say overall this one is a winner no matter how you look at it.
