Hi I was just goin thru my knife collection and my EDC habbits and realized that I at least pack one trad. european knife; mostly two.
Those are a Vic. Spartan and a Sicilian Pattada knife. Name doesn´t have anything to do with pealing potatoes. It´s got a myrtle leaf shaped blade utility in mind, combat ready. You can see them at www.patara-info or www.coltellerieberti.it .
Anyone else packs some history like a Opinel , Nantron, Douk Douk, Laguiole, Navaja.....?

Matthias

I have a couple of Opinels in the kitchen, along with a Douk Douk, which has got to be the sharpest little razor of a knife around. I also have a small Laguiole, but that doesn't see much carry. It's one of a number of gentleman's knives in the collection.

As far as SAKs count, I have a Wenger-with-everything, Victorinox Ranger and Mini-Champ, and a couple of small keychain Vics, also.

My Scandinavian knives should also qualify as traditional: a leuku/puukko set and a Helle Nying.

Of all of them, the Ranger and Mini-Champ are the ones that get carried.

I have lots of European knives, both folders and fixed blades,

Favorite folders would be any of many SAKs (I EDC A Victorinox Huntsman), also a rosewood Opinel 8, a Puma Prince, a Boker folding Hunter, a Rodgers English Jack, a Currey Lockspike Bosun.

Latest would be an inexpensive Laguiole I got last week.

I love Puukkos-oddly, I don't own one, or a khindjal, which I also think are beautiful. I do own opinels, which my GF keeps taking-I will eventually get her a laguiole-Spyderco had a collaboration a while back that I liked a lot..--Joe

Two Spanish Muelas, both double edged tactical/fighter, some Kissing Crane stilletos, three Opinels in the gardening box, a Czech Mikov auto, a Boker auto and an unknown Italian "swinguard" switch are my European reps.

The Mikov has that "Cold War" reputation and the "swinguard" switch has got the whole 50's, James Dean aura going for it. Those two are definitely my faves. Don't carry any of them ever but enjoy them nonetheless.

My favorite Euro knives are the Victorinox Soldier and the old Puma Hunter's Friend.

The Soldier is what it is and the old Puma sharpens easy and is one of my best edge holding blades.

The old carbon steel Puma knives are "keepers".

2 SAKs, an Opinel, a Laguiole, 2 Moras and a Puukko

One of the SAKs sits in my four wheel driving kit with a mora.

The other SAK sits in my carry-everywhere daypack or pocket.

The Laguiole lives in my kitchen as my only other kitchen blade is a a cleaver. I also pack for picnics or any occasion where food is involved.

The second mora lives in my hip pack for bushwalking.

The Opinel lives in retirement but not because it is unloved. The puukko sits on my night table for frequent admiration.

My all time European favorites:

Hi Matt!
Just few words to say that Pattada is a small village in the heart of Sardinia famous for its knives. So you should have a Sardinian Pattada knife, not a Sicilian one!
Here is a link to the web site of one of the most important knifemaker from Sardinia:

I have three different opinels that I use for my landscaping/nursery job.
The "Monster Folding Machete" No. 12 for general utility, the mild Hawkbill for cutting landscape fabric, and the Drop point for pruning soft tissue plants.
The opinel website:

Interesting that the No. 12 has a much finer point than the Drop Point based on the No. 8 size.
Another interesting point is that All the Clip Tip versions are identical except for size; there is no sense of scale or reference points in pictures; you have to see them lined up next to a ruler to get a good idea as to the various sizes.
An old style Endura Rounds out my work knives

I also love the Fairbairn Sykes Daggers, although I only have one of the $40 repros.

Assorted SAK's (Victorinox & Wenger)
Maartiini (sp?) Puuko
A couple of Moras
" " " Opinels
Spanish "military" knife
Large "Ratcheting" Navaja (makes noise as it opens)
Fjallkniven F1
German pre-war "Jagdknicker"
Italian lever-lock auto
German lever-lock auto

I have a Fallkiven F1. I bought one of their new full tang DIY blades and put some tan micarta on it with hidden stainless bolts, Looks nice, Cuts nicer. Got a bunch of SAKs, faves are the swisschamp xlt with 50 tools, a sak soldier, Old model with the hollow rivet oposite the large blade, a sak floral knife, with a single sheepsfoot blade and BLACK handle scales and gold FTD logo. A Boker Walter Brend, A Hen and Rooster stiletto. one of them piece of crap Kissing cranes stilettos, a glock field knife, Some of them purty but useless Linder daggers, A german army field knife from the 80's (Green plastic coke bottle handle, metal scabbard)
Actually two of them, I rehandled one I got with a gouged up handle for cheap. A lee Metford double edged bayonet, a Swiss sg57 bayonet, A FN 49 Bayonet, A spike blade D-Day invasion dagger. There is probably more, I know I own something sharp and pointy that says Eickhorn on it.

Puma Original Bowie, Opinel Effile 15, Victorinox Outrider, Fällkniven F1, Mikov Auto, EKA Nordic Series, Frost Mora, Marttiini Fillet, Fiskars kitchen knives, KJ Eriksson Mora 2000 (maybe the best buy there is regarding quality/price ratio).

I own and carry Opinels and plan on getting a custom Laguiole. The traditional fixed blades of Scandinavia are also a personal favorite.

One of my favorites, my preferred carry when camping, etc., is a very nice Puma Jadgmesser (ca 1989 green box).
