Hey guy little bit of a back story XD I have recently been thinking about purchasing a knife that has the wave feature. Been looking at the ZT 0620, ZT 0630, Emerson Commander, Emerson CQC-8 and Emerson CQC-15. I like very strong knives, so I was thinking about going with the ZT 0630 (because I find the blade shape at an overall perspective to be more useful than a tanto blade) and I realized... All of my knives have some sort of coating on them, this would be my first knife that doesn't have a black blade and I wasn't sure if I like having a Stonewashed Satin finish, I really like my Black DLC coated blades. So, I wanted to ask other people their opinion, on there favourite blade finish and if having a different finish is a deal breaker?

PS: Which out of the knives I listed would you use pick for a hard use/tactical knife?

Hey Gideon! I prefer the Spydie coating......that stuff is tough and looks great! Pro Tech seems to use the same coating.
Check out the ZT stuff.......that 620 is amazing! I don't have one, but have seen guys here beat them up real good and they just keep taking it!

Blade finish? Satin or stonewash, depends entirely on how well each is done.

Coating? DLC hands down, though I prefer blades without coating.

Bead blast finish can be a dealbreaker for me. I've had too many blasted blades develop rust for me to like it at all.

I like the Spydie DLC coating. My favorite though is the hand rubbed blade on the CKF Sukhoi

I like satin. Stonewashed is ok by me too.

I do like Emerson's satin/stonewashed.

As to hard use? Emerson's aren't weak.[emoji106]

I don't like coatings to begin with, but I'd always trust a ZT over an Emerson. Superior materials and much better attention to detail.

I like how black cerakote looks (like on the Freeman BLF 451), but I would go mirror no coating if given the choice. I like coatings that wear down too, gives the knife a cool look

I've always appreciated heavy stonewashes - Emerson and Cold Steel do some of the best stonewashes in the business. Looks good, hides wear! DLC might be wear resistant, but man does it show the wear something fierce. Cold Steel's polished DLC is a huge pain in the butt to clean, but holds up excellently in use (which is really what matters!)
